Census 1891.—Sickness and Infirmity.

FURTHER results of the census of the 5th April, 1891, relating to sickness and infirmity, are published for general information.
This table, with those already published, completes the whole of the information respecting the population obtained at the recent census.

TABLE showing the Ages, in Quinquennial Periods, of Persons, Males, and Females (exclusive of Maoris), of 15 Years of Age and upwards, returned as Sick or suffering from Accident; and of all Ages returned as Deaf-and-dumb, Blind, Lunatics, Idiots, Epileptic, Paralysed, Crippled and Deformed, suffering from Debility, and Deaf, on the 5th April, 1891.

NOTE.—The sickness of those under 15 years has not been brought out, the instruction to householders on the census schedule being that, if “unable to follow usual occupation by reason of illness or accident,” the word “Sick” or “Accident” was to be entered.

VUW Te Waharoa — NZ Gazette 1892, No 50

In 1865 Parliament moved to Wellington and sat in the Wellington Provincial Council Chambers (depicted). Gradually expanded into a larger complex of buildings, it was replaced by the General Assembly Library in 1899
