Notice of Intention to take Land for Portion of Ngaruawahia-Akitea Road.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a road through Sections Nos. 40, 41, and 42, Parish of Waipa, Provincial District of Auckland, and for the purposes of such public work the lands described in the Schedule hereto are required to be taken; and notice is further given that the plan of the said road and of the lands so required to be taken is deposited at the Post Office, Ngaruawahia, and is there open for inspection. And notice is hereby given that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said lands shall, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of the said public work or to the taking of such lands, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.

ENCOUNTER BAY, PORT VICTOR.
NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after the 1st June, 1892, a fixed bright light will be exhibited from sunset to sunrise on the east end of Granite Island, visible in a clear atmosphere a distance of ten miles, and showing round an arc of 152° of the horizon from the direction of Pullens Island, off Port Elliot to eastward, round by south to West Island, that is, between the bearings of north 31° E., round by north and west to south 59° W. Bearings, correct magnetic.

Hydrographic Remarks.—Mallicolo Island, Vao Islet: In navigating between Vao Islet and the island of Mallicolo, care must be taken to keep over towards the shore of the latter island in rounding the south-west extreme of the former, as the low sandy point runs out some distance under water.

Notice to Mariners, No. 20 of 1892.
NAPIER HARBOUR.—ALTERATION OF POSITION OF RED LIGHT AT END OF BREAKWATER, NAPIER BLUFF.

Wellington, N.Z., 21st June, 1892.
REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 10, of the 23rd March last, relative to the exhibition of a red light on the outer end of the breakwater at Napier Bluff, it having been found difficult to maintain the light during heavy seas, the Napier Harbour Board have given notice that, on and after the night of the 1st July next, the light will be shown from the north-east corner of the wharf erected on the northern side of the breakwater. The light when so placed will be about a cable’s length in shore of the present end of the breakwater, and three cables from the surrounding rubble foundation.
Vessels in making for Napier at night should open the white sector of the light on Eastern Pier, bearing south-west, before losing sight of the Ahuriri Bluff light, bearing south by west.

MAURITIUS.
PENDING the restoration of the flashing light on board the lightship in Port Louis Roadstead, three fixed white lights, forming a triangle, and visible in a radius of about three miles, will temporarily replace the flashing light.
The temporary lightship will be recognised in daylight by a black ball at her mast-head.
She is moored in the same position as that hitherto occupied by the lightship.
The aforementioned temporary light will be exhibited from this date until further notice.

INNER ROUTE TO TORRES STRAIT.—POSITION OF TANNADICE ROCK.
NOTICE is hereby given that the Nautical Surveyor (Mr. E. A. Cullen) has examined Tannadice Rock and finds it to lie five and one-sixth miles S. 58° E. (magnetic) from Restoration Rock—i.e., about five-sixths of a mile E. by N. ¾ N. from the position assigned to it on Admiralty charts.
The rock has a minimum depth of 5ft. on it at low-water springs.

Bonus for the Manufacture of Salt.

Wellington, 24th February, 1892.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £1 per ton will be paid on the production of the first 500 tons of salt, exclusively either by evaporation of salt-water or from rock mined in the colony, on the following conditions, that is to say:—
- The bonus must be claimed before the 31st March, 1893.
- Not more than £250 will be paid for salt manufactured in the North Island, and not more than £250 for salt manufactured in the South Island.
- The bonus will be payable in instalments of £50 as each lot of 50 tons of salt is manufactured, on the certificate of an officer appointed by the Minister of Mines that the salt is of good marketable quality.
- In the event of more than one person manufacturing the stated quantity of salt in the North or South Islands respectively before the 31st March, 1893, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus in either the North Island or the South Island, the amount will be
