Notice of Application to amend Specification.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 26th May, 1892.

A REQUEST to be allowed to amend the specification
relating to the under-mentioned application for letters
patent has been received, and is open to public inspection at
this office. Any person may, at any time within one month
from the date of this Gazette, give me notice in writing, in
duplicate, of opposition to the amendment, stating in such
notice the particular grounds of his objection. A fee of 10s. is
payable with such notice:—

No. 5310.—CORNELIUS LOT WHEELER, of Christchurch,
Canterbury, New Zealand, Mill Machinist. An invention for
an improved seed and grain disintegrator, to be called
“Wheeler’s Seed and Grain Disintegrator.”

The nature of the amendment, as set forth in such
request, is as follows, viz.:—

  1. By inserting the words “of a churning or paddling
device” immediately after the word “brushes” where it
    first appears in the specification.

  2. By inserting the words “or inside” immediately after
the word “undersides,” in line 34.

  3. By inserting the words “or lining” immediately after
the words “jacketing,” in line 35, and “jacket,” in line 45,
    respectively.

  4. By inserting the words “having a convex surface”
immediately after the word “brushes” where it appears in
the sentence “to which carriers, brushes are bolted.”

  5. By disclaiming (if it has any effect) the amendment
made at the hearing of inserting the first claim immediately
before the words “What I claim is,” and having restored
the claims as originally filed by disclaiming the whole of
them and inserting the following claim in their place, viz.:
“The combinations and arrangements of parts and me-
chanism (forming the whole machine) substantially as
described in the specifications and drawings.”

  6. By disclaiming the machine patented by Lees and
    Lester, No. 3479, of 9th January, 1889.

As his reasons for seeking to make these amendments,
the applicant states: “I desire to correct clerical errors
or omissions, to add words by way of explanation, and to
bring the claim within the meaning of the title and
specification.”
