Civil Service Senior Examination.

IN pursuance of regulations under "The Civil Service
Reform Act, 1886," notice is hereby given that for the
Senior Examination of January, 1893, the period of liter-
ature will be the reign of Elizabeth, and the special books
will be Shakespeare's Hamlet and Macaulay's Essays on
Bacon and Walpole.

Issue of Money-order Telegrams up to £20.

General Post Office,
Wellington, 27th April, 1892.

IT is hereby notified that, on and after the 1st May next,
money-order telegrams will be issued and paid in New
Zealand up to twenty pounds sterling.

The commission, in addition to the telegraph-fee of one
shilling (1s.) for each order, will be at the rate of threepence
for each pound or fraction of a pound.

Officiating Ministers for 1892.—Notice No. 13.

Assembly of New Zealand, passed in the forty-fourth
year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, and in-
titled "The Marriage Act, 1880," the following name of an
Officiating Minister within the meaning of the said Act is
published for general information:—

Church of the Province of New Zealand, commonly called
the Church of England.

Goldfields Notices.

Special Claim cancelled.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Adminis-
trator of the Government has been pleased to pro-
nounce the under-mentioned special claim cancelled, and
that the ground is now open for application as if no lease of
the said ground had ever been applied for:—

The Phoenix Extended Gold-mining Company (Limited);
Section 143, Block XIV., Reefton, Karamea Mining District,
39 acres 2 roods 9 perches. No. 1457.

Coal-mining Lease cancelled.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Administrator
of the Government has been pleased to pronounce the
under-mentioned coal-mining lease cancelled, and that the
ground is now open for application as if no lease of the said
ground had ever been applied for :—

Crown Lands Notices.

Forfeited Deferred-payment Lands in the Gordon Special Settlement.

District Land and Survey Office,
Auckland, 21st April, 1892.

IT is hereby notified, in terms of the Land Acts, that the
under-mentioned sections within the Gordon Special
Settlement will be offered at auction, for selection on de-
ferred payments, under the amended regulations relating to
special settlements made by Order in Council issued on the
5th December, 1885, at this office, on Thursday, the 9th
June, 1892, at 11 a.m.

Block X.: Section No. 2, open fern land, well watered;
No. 6, open land with a little swamp; No. 7, about two-
thirds open land, with a little swamp and small quantity of
mixed bush, near main road; No. 9, open land with a little
bush in gullies. Block XI.: Sections Nos. 1 and 2, nearly
all open land, with a little bush on ranges; Nos.
6 and 8, open land, with about one-third mixed forest in
each. Section No. 8 is weighted with £20 for improve-
ments.

These are forfeited sections in the Gordon Special Settle-
ment, and purchasers under the regulations will stand in
the place of original settlers; and will become members of
the association.

A deposit of one-twentieth of the total purchase-money,
together with license-fee £1 1s., shall be paid on the fall of
the hammer, such deposit to be in satisfaction of the first
half-yearly instalment to be reckoned from the 1st July
next; thereafter the payments shall be made every six
months in advance, at the rate of one-twentieth of the price
of the land, until the whole price has been paid, when the
purchaser shall be entitled to a Crown grant of the land
upon proof to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown
Lands that he has been continuously in residential occupa-
tion for a period of six years, and has fulfilled all the con-
ditions.

No person who is the holder of land on deferred payments,
or who has acquired any freehold under that system, or who
is the holder of land on perpetual lease, and no person who
is the owner of a pre-emptive right, or who is the owner in
fee of land anywhere in the colony which, together with
any of the areas now offered, would exceed 320 acres, shall
be entitled to become a settler under these regulations.

The stated value of the improvements (if any) must be
paid in cash to the Receiver of Land Revenue on the fall of
the hammer.
