REMARKS. — Generally showery and cold weather, with prevailing southerly wind; maximum rainfall on 21st, 1·53in.; fine towards end of month; generally moderate winds; foggy on 1st, 2nd, 7th, 10th, and 15th; sleet and hail on 31st. Maximum temperature in shade, 57·5 on 30th; minimum, 31·3 on 13th. Mean temperature of dewpoint, 40·7; mean humidity, 85. Earthquake on 5th, at 10.55 p.m., smart, S.E. to N.W., and on 10th, at 4.48 p.m., slight.
