Allocating Land reserved and taken for a Railway to the
Purposes of a Road in Kowai Road District.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the lands mentioned in the Schedule hereto
form part of land reserved for the purposes of the
Hurunui to Waitaki Railway, and it is considered desirable
to allocate such lands to the purposes of a road :
And whereas it has been certified by the New Zealand
Railway Commissioners that such lands are not required for
railway purposes : And whereas such lands are situated in
the Kowai Road District, the local authority of which has
consented to the issue of this Proclamation :
And whereas His Excellency the Governor is of opinion
that the said local authority can conveniently construct and
maintain the said road :
Now, therefore, I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and
pursuance of the powers and authorities in me vested by
section five of "The Public Works Act Amendment Act,
1889," and of every other power and authority in anywise
enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare
that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall, upon
the publication hereof in the New Zealand Gazette, become
a road, and that the said road shall be under the control of
the Kowai Road Board, and shall be maintained by the said
Board in like manner as other public highways are controlled
and maintained by the said Board.
SCHEDULE.
All that area in the Survey Districts of Rangiora and Grey,
Provincial District of Canterbury, being portion of Railway
Reserve No. 2640, generally 100 links wide, the western
boundary-line of which commences at a point on the western
boundary-line of the said Reserve No. 2640, 1140 links south
of the south-eastern corner of Rural Section No. 18271,
Rangiora Survey District ; and proceeds in a northerly direc-
tion along the western boundary-line of Reserve No. 2640
aforesaid to the southernmost corner of Rural Section No.
3829, Grey Survey District.
Also all that area in the Grey Survey District, Provincial
District of Canterbury, being portion of Railway Reserve
No. 2640, generally 100 links wide, the eastern boundary-
line of which commences at a point on the eastern boundary-
line of the said Reserve No. 2640 at the northernmost
corner of Rural Section No. 4528 ; and proceeds along the
eastern boundary-line of Reserve No. 2640 aforesaid to a point
1280 links distant from the intersection of the eastern boun-
dary-line of Reserve No. 2640 aforesaid with the centre line
of the Addington–Hurunui Railway ; and thence in a north-
westcrly direction in a straight line to a point 50 links
distant from the centre line of the said railway, measured at
right angles thereto and easterly therefrom.
Also all that area in the Grey Survey District, Provincial
District of Canterbury, being portion of Railway Reserve
No. 2640, 100 links wide, the northern boundary-line of
which commences at the western boundary-line of the said
Reserve No. 2640 at the southernmost corner of Rural Sec-
tion No. 7605 ; and proceeds in a south-easterly direction in
continuation of the north side of the road which forms the
south-western boundary of the said Section No. 7605, inter-
secting Reserve No. 2640 aforesaid, to the area hereinbefore
described.
Also all that area in the Grey Survey District, Provincial
District of Canterbury, being portion of Railway Reserve
No. 2640, generally 100 links wide, the eastern boundary-
line of which commences at a point on the eastern boundary-
line of Rural Section No. 2943 distant 50 links from the
centre line of the Addington–Hurunui Railway, measured at
right angles thereto and westerly therefrom ; and proceeds
in a northerly direction along a line parallel to, and 50 links
distant from, the centre line of the said Addington–Hurunui
Railway to a point 100 links distant from the eastern boun-
dary-line of the said Section No. 2943, measured at right
angles thereto ; and thence along a line parallel to the
eastern boundary-line of Section No. 2943 aforesaid for a
distance of 560 links.
As the said parcels of land are more particularly delineated
on the plan marked S.G. 13010, deposited in the General
Survey Office, at Wellington, in the Provincial District of
Wellington, and thereon coloured green.

Onslow in the County of Salop; Viscount Cranley,
of Cranley in the County of Surrey; Baron
Onslow, of Onslow in the County of Salop, and
of West Clandon in the County of Surrey; Baron
Cranley, of Imbercourt; Baronet; Knight Grand
Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint
Michael and Saint George; Governor and Com-
mander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same ; and issued under the Seal
of the said Colony, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this twenty-ninth day of December,
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hun-
dred and ninety.
