REGISTRAR-GENERAL'S Report on the Vital Statistics of the Four Principal Boroughs of New Zealand during the Year 1890.

  • Neither the population of, nor the births and deaths occurring in, the Richmond Ward, which was added to the city in the latter part of 1890, are included in the figures here given. The total population of Christchurch City (including the new ward) on the 1st January, 1891, is estimated to be 17,277 persons.

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and upwards, and the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, that were registered during the Year 1890.
