Returning Officers appointed.

ONSLOW, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers in me vested, I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby revoke all existing appointments of Returning Officers for Maori electoral districts, under “The Maori Representation Act, 1867,” and do hereby appoint the following persons to be Returning Officers for the Maori electoral districts hereinafter specified:—

Northern Maori Electoral District—
Helyar Wedderburn Bishop, Esq., R.M.
Western Maori Electoral District—
George Thomas Wilkinson, Esq.
Eastern Maori Electoral District—
George Augustus Preece, Esq., R.M.
Southern Maori Electoral District—
Alexander Mackay, Esq.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this seventh day of October, one thousand eight hundred and ninety.

Writs for the Election of Members of the House of Representatives.

THE following writs for the election of members of the House of Representatives of New Zealand for the several Maori electoral districts constituted under “The Maori Representation Act, 1867,” “The Maori Representation Act Amendment and Continuance Act, 1872,” and “The Maori Representation Acts Continuance Act, 1876,” are published in the New Zealand Gazette in accordance with regulations issued by Proclamation bearing date the twenty-ninth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one.

VICTORIA, by the grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the Islands of New Zealand, Queen :

To HELYAR WEDDERBURN BISHOP, Esquire, Returning Officer for the Northern Maori Electoral District : Greeting.

WHEREAS it is necessary that an election of a member of the House of Representatives of New Zealand shall take place: Now, therefore, we do hereby require and command you to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law and regulations in this behalf prescribed, a legally-qualified person to serve as member of the said House of Representatives for the Northern Maori Electoral District: And we do hereby further require and command that you cause the nomination of the said member to be at

RUSSELL,

on the twenty-seventh day of October, and the polling, in case it shall be required, to be at the several polling-places on the twenty-seventh day of November; and that this our writ, with the name of the person so elected indorsed thereon by you, shall be returned to us here on or before the twentieth day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety.

In witness whereof, our Trusty and Well-beloved William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, of Onslow in the County of Salop; Viscount Cranley, of Cranley in the County of Surrey; Baron Onslow, of Onslow in the County of Salop, and of West Clandon in the County of Surrey; Baron Cranley, of Imbercourt; Baronet; Knight Grand Cross of our Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over our Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, has caused the Public Seal of the Colony of New Zealand to be hereunto affixed, at Christchurch, the seventh day of October, one thousand eight hundred and ninety.
