A PROCLAMATION.
I
N exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in me by the two hundred and sixty-seventh
section of "The Counties Act, 1886," and at the request of
the Ashburton County Council, I, William Hillier, Earl of
Onslow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do
hereby proclaim and declare the lands described in the
Schedule hereto to be water-races, as defined by the two
hundred and sixty-sixth section of the said Act, to be known
by the name of the Ashburton-Rakaia Water-races; and,
further, that the River Ashburton, in the County of Ash-
burton, with its tributaries and affluents, and also the creek
known as Chapman's Creek, in the said county, shall be
streams which may be taken for the purpose of supplying
the said water-races.
SCHEDULE.
ARTERIAL RACE E (E).
ALL that area, 50 links in width, situated in the Survey Dis-
trict of Spaxton, County of Ashburton, commencing at a
point on the left bank of the Pudding Hill Stream, in
Section 30916, and proceeding in a south-easterly direction
generally, intersecting that section, Reserve 2571, a road,
and Sections 30818 and 30179, to the creek forming the
south-western boundary of Section 25109; thence intersect-
ing Sections 25109, 25216, 24445, and the Alford Forest Road
to Section 25153. Also, all that area, 50 links in width,
situated in the Survey District of Spaxton, County of Ash-
burton, commencing in Section 17233, at its western bound-
ary-line, and proceeding in a south-easterly direction,
intersecting the said Section 17233, a road, and Section
17231, to a point at or near the western boundary of Section
17232.
RACE E.
All that area, 25 links in width, situated in the Spaxton,
Corwar, Ashburton, Rakaia, and South Rakaia Survey Dis-
tricts, County of Ashburton, commencing at a point on
Arterial Race E (E), hereinbefore described, about 27 chains
south of the north-east corner of Section 17231 of the said
Spaxton Survey District, and proceeding in an easterly and
south-easterly direction, and intersecting the said Section
17231 and Sections 17232 and 17229, a road, Section 17924, a
road, Sections 17925 and 20919, a road, Sections 26751, 26752,
and 26753, a road, Sections 20681, 20682, and 18913, a road,
