Description of Land: All forest, composed of rimu, rata,
towai, &c.; generally flat; soil light, being a thin deposit
upon volcanic ash and stone; well watered, and more fit for
pastoral than agricultural purposes. Sections 12 and 16,
much cut up by streams; 13 is precipitous; 18, gully, pre-
cipitous, wet in parts; 26, a considerable amount of towai,
and several hummocks; 1, Block XV., eastern part mostly
towai bush, and inferior soil; 5, and 16, 17, 18, and 19,
Block III., Opunake, are wet in places; 19, Block III., has
many hummocks; 3, Block IV., is wet in places. These lots
are situated about six miles from the South Road, along the
Newell, Kahui, and Ngaiiki Roads, which are formed; the
nearest township is Rahotu, which is on the South Road,
about thirty miles from New Plymouth.

this fourteenth day of July, one thousand eight
hundred and ninety.

Rural Lands in the Hawke’s Bay Land District open for
Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the third section of “The Land
Act Amendment Act, 1887” (hereinafter termed “the said
Act”), I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the
Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is
provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated
in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection,
after the lapse of a period of not less than forty-five days from
the date of the first public notification hereof, in the manner
and upon the conditions mentioned in the said Act, and at
the price per acre stated in the said Schedule.

Description of Land: Well watered, undulating or hilly
country, of a good but light quality of soil. The timber is
very mixed, but generally light, with a sprinkling of totara
along the river-flat.

of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint

JOHN MCALISTER

to be Trustees, in the place of E. Eivers, R. Wilkin, and
J. Merritt, to provide for the maintenance and care of
the Whakatane Cemetery, in conjunction with the other
persons appointed by warrant under the hand of His Excel-
lency the Governor on the eleventh day of September, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-three.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this fourteenth day of July, one thousand eight
hundred and ninety.
