Additional Land taken at Lyttelton for the Purposes of the Hurunui-Waitaki Railway: Christchurch to Lyttelton Branch.

A NOTIFICATION.

WHEREAS it has been found desirable, for the use convenience, and enjoyment of the Christchurch to Lyttelton Branch of the Hurunui-Waitaki Railway, which is a railway vested in the New Zealand Railway Commissioners, under the provisions of “The Government Railways Act, 1887,” to take further land at Lyttelton, in addition to land previously acquired for the purposes of the said railway: Now, therefore, we, the New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on us by “The Government Railways Act, 1887,” and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling us in that behalf, do hereby notify and declare that the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto is taken for the purposes above mentioned.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land situate in the Harbour of Lyttelton, in the Provincial District of Canterbury, containing 3 roods 27·4 perches, being part of the land vested in the Lyttelton Harbour Board by “The Lyttelton Harbour Board Land Act, 1877,” and described in Schedule A thereto, and bounded as follows:—

Commencing at a point in the boundary-line described in the said Schedule A as “a curvilinear and straight line for about 315 yards, terminating at a point on the outer edge of breastwork opposite the Government Goods-shed,” and which said commencing-point is distant 70 links in a south-easterly direction from the point of intersection of the above-mentioned boundary-line, with a line parallel to, and 532 links distant from, and south of the centre line of Norwich Quay, which said point of intersection is 567·5 links east of the centre line of Oxford Street produced, measured along the said line parallel to Norwich Quay; thence by a line running south-easterly, a distance of 808 links, coinciding with the boundary-line first above mentioned; thence at right angles south-westerly, a distance of 114 links; thence at right angles north-westerly, a distance of 808 links; and, lastly, at right angles north-easterly, a distance of 114 links, to the commencing-point; and bounded on the north-east by the Railway Reserve, and on the three other sides by other land vested in the Lyttelton Harbour Board, and described in the said Schedule A: as the said parcel of land is delineated on the plan numbered 4492, and deposited in the office of the New Zealand Railway Commissioners, at Wellington, and thereon coloured blue.

Given under the common seal of the New Zealand Railway Commissioners, at Wellington, this twenty-first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety.

Alterations and Additions to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in force on the New Zealand Railways.

THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in exercise and pursuance of the powers conferred by “The Government Railways Act, 1887,” do hereby make the following alterations in and additions to the scale of fares, rates, and charges on the New Zealand Railways, to come into force on and after the 27th day of January, 1890:—

PART IV.—LOCAL RATES.

KAWAKAWA SECTION.

Flax, native, dressed, pressed, from Kawakawa to Opua, will be charged at the classified rate for Class D.

No. 4180.—JOSEPH GABRIEL BENTLEY, of Balelutha, Otago, New Zealand, Painter. An invention for “The Simplex Spouting-cover.”

No. 4184.—JOSEPH ALEXANDER FLEMING, of North Shore, Auckland, Mechanical Engineer. An invention for washing and bleaching New Zealand flax, to be called “Fleming’s Washing and Bleaching Machine for New Zealand Flax.”

No. 4185.—ALFRED ADAIR and JOHN GEORGE CRUICKSHANK, both of Johannesburg, South African Republic, Engineers. An invention for improvements in stones or equivalent devices for use in machinery for grinding quartz and other substances.

“THE NATIVE LANDS FRAUDS PREVENTION ACT 1881 AMENDMENT ACT, 1888.”—PROHIBITED DEALINGS WITH NATIVE LANDS.

  1. It shall not be lawful for any person to negotiate, either on his own behalf or as agent or trustee for any other person, for the purchase, conveyance, transfer, lease, exchange, or occupation of any Native land, or of any land, or any estate, right, title, or interest therein, or for any agency or authority to deal therewith or in relation thereto, unless such land is now owned under Crown grant, memorial of ownership, or certificate of title issued under either a Native Land Court Act or a Land Transfer Act to not more than twenty Natives, or unless such land shall hereafter become and shall have been so owned for forty days.

  2. Forthwith upon any land hereafter becoming owned by not more than twenty Natives as aforesaid, it shall be a duty
