The following remarks apply only to the four principal boroughs:—
The births in April were 232, against 227 in March, an increase of 5.
The deaths amounted to 110, against 112 in March.
There were 16 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: 3 males of 88, 71, and 68, and 2 females of 76 and 67, died at Auckland; 2 males of 76 and 73, at Wellington; 2 males of 66 and 65 at Christchurch; 4 males of 81, 79, 74, and 65, and 3 females of 98, 74, and 68, at Dunedin.
Specific Febrile or Zymotic Diseases.—The mortality from these diseases was less than in the previous month. In March the number of deaths was 33, in April 27; but while the deaths from diarrhoeal diseases decreased in number from 24 in March to 10 in April, the deaths from typhoid fever increased from 6 to 11.
