The following remarks apply only to the four principal boroughs:—
The births in March were 227, against 210 in February, an increase of 17.
The deaths amounted to 112, against 91 in February.
There were 11 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: 3 males of 80, 66, and 65, died at Auckland; 2 males of 73 and 66, and 2 females of 88 and 80, at Wellington; 2 males of 85 and 67, and 2 females of 83 and 72, at Dunedin.
Specific Febrile or Zymotic Diseases.—The deaths in this class increased from 19 in February to 33 in March. Diphtheria caused 1 death, at Wellington, in each month. From typhoid fever there were 6 deaths in March, of which 3 were at Auckland, 1 at Wellington, 1 at Christchurch, and 1 at Dunedin. In February the deaths numbered 5. The mortality from diarrhœal complaints increased from 13 deaths in February to 24 in March, being heaviest at Wellington, 6 and 9 deaths for the two months respectively.
