a. The weight of a packet of newspapers, commercial papers, printed papers, or books is limited to 4 pounds 6 ounces.
b. To Belgium, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Portugal, Switzerland via France, Italy, and the United States, to which the limit is 12 inches in length, 8 inches in width, 4 inches in depth, and 8 ounces in weight. This applies to countries in the Postal Union (see "Guide"), except the United Kingdom, packets not exceeding 2 feet in length, 1 foot in width or depth, and 5 pounds in weight, may be sent.
c. Cannot be registered.
d. A further charge on delivery.
e. Must be specially addressed.
f. The postage for France and French possessions, and Italy, on commercial papers, which include printed papers of all descriptions, except newspapers, and written papers of every kind which are not of the nature of actual correspondence, is 6d. for any weight up to 12 ounces, and 1d. for every additional ounce.
Gold or silver money, jewels, or precious articles, or anything liable to Customs duties, cannot be transmitted through the post to any country of the Postal Union except the United Kingdom, to which such articles can be forwarded at the letter rate if registered.
Letters, book-packets, and newspapers can be forwarded by private ship direct, as opportunity offers, upon payment of the ordinary ship rates, viz.: Letters, 6d. per half-ounce; book-packets, 2d. per 2 ounces for all countries except Australia, and those enumerated in the first group under Polynesia, which are subject to the lesser rates.
