Alterations and Additions to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and
Charges in force on the New Zealand Railways.

THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in exercise
of the powers conferred by "The
Government Railways Act, 1887," do hereby make the
following alterations in and additions to the scale of fares,
rates, and charges on the New Zealand Railways, to come
into force on and after the 9th day of September, 1889 :-

PART IV.-LOCAL RATES.

WELLINGTON SECTION.

Class M.

Class M, consigned from stations on the Wellington-
Manawatu Railway to Kaiwarra, Ngahauranga, or Petone,
will be charged 7s. 6d. per truck for conveyance on the
Government Railway.

The common seal of the New Zealand

Money Order and Savings Bank Office opened.

IT is hereby notified for general information that a Money
Order and Savings Bank Office will be opened at
PARUA BAY (Chief Office, Auckland),
from the 24th instant.

Special Registration of Unregistered Births permitted by
"Registration of Births Extension Act, 1889."

THE attention of the public is drawn to the opportunity
afforded, for a limited time-i.e., twelve months from
the 29th July last-to persons, or the parents of persons,
whose births cannot now be registered under "The Registra-
tion of Births and Deaths Act, 1875," to effect a special
registration by application to the Registrar-General.

By "The Registration of Births Extension Act, 1889," the
provisions of the second section of "The Registration of
Births Act Amendment Act, 1882," are re-enacted, and
extend and apply to the later Act, which passed on the 29th
July, 1889.

They are as follow:---

"It shall be lawful for the Registrar-General to register the
birth of any child born in the colony previous to the period
of twelve months before the date of the passing of this Act,
but whose birth has not previously been registered: Pro-
vided-

"(a.) That satisfactory evidence on oath, and such other
proof as he may deem necessary of the fact, place,
and time of birth, and of the particulars of the
parents, shall be sent to the Registrar-General
within twelve months from the date of the coming
into operation of this Act;

"(b.) That, on application to have such birth registered,
a fee of one pound shall be paid to the Registrar-
General. The particulars of the birth and of the
nature of the evidence produced shall be entered by
the Registrar-General in a separate book, which
shall be kept by him for that purpose; the form in
which the particulars are to be registered shall be
prescribed by the Registrar-General."

Assembly of New Zealand, passed in the forty-fourth
year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, and in-
tituled "The Marriage Act, 1880," the following names of
Officiating Ministers within the meaning of the said Act are
published for general information:-

Notice of Hearing of Applications for Patents.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 6th September, 1889.

NO. 3930.-JAMES MCDONALD, of Dunedin, Otago, New
Zealand, Cement Manufacturer, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for improvements in the
manufacture of cement.

No. 3932.-EDWARD SEITZ, of Flinders Lane, West Mel-
bourne, Victoria, Engineer, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for improvements in and relat-
ing to valves for turbines and other water-wheels.

No. 3933.-FRANCIS HENRY ASBURY, of Dunedin, New
Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for heating the feed-water for steam-boilers,
&c.

No. 3934.-WILLIAM LUCAS, of Christchurch, New Zea-
land, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of
an invention for improvements in the construction of slide-
valves and cylinder-ports of steam-engines.

No. 3935.-HUGH TAYLOR, of Inangahua Junction, Nelson,
New Zealand, Farmer, has deposited at this office a specifi-
cation of an invention for saving life and property from
burning buildings, to be called "Taylor's Always Ready
Fire-escape."

No. 3936.-HUGH TAYLOR, of Inangahua Junction, Nelson,
New Zealand, Farmer, has deposited at this office a specifi-
cation of an invention for churning butter, to be called
"Taylor's Rosemount Churn."

And I have appointed Tuesday, the 3rd day of Decem-
ber next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear
the said applications and all objections thereto; and I re-
quire all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of
any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 18th day of
November next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will
be precluded from urging the same.

Solicitor, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for Jacobs's Patent Combination Nicotine
Filter Mouthpiece and Cigarette (being a communication
from Louis Philip Jacobs, of Melbourne, Victoria, Merchant).

No. 3938.-BENJAMIN GOULTON, of Kaeo, Whangaroa,
Auckland, New Zealand, has deposited at this office a speci-
fication of an invention for a turn-over bee-box.

No. 3939.-THOMAS ANDREW BROMELL, of Motupiko, New
Zealand, Settler, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for a new or improved plough-attachment.

No. 3940.-ROBERT STANSFIELD, of Wellington, New Zea-
land, Student, has deposited at this office a specification of
an invention for improvements in advertising, to be called
"The Bannerette Advertising Medium."

No. 3941.-ALEXANDER HENRY KRAUSE, of Dunedin, New
Zealand, Gentleman, has deposited at this office a specifi-
cation of an invention for the use of children, and entitled
"The Amy Cradle."

No. 3942.-JAMES HAY, Jun., of Charteris Bay, Canterbury,
New Zealand, Farmer, has deposited at this office a specifi-
cation of an invention for an improved standard and clip for
wire-fencing, to be called "Hay's Improved Standard and
Clip for Wire-fencing."

And I have appointed Wednesday, the 4th day of Decem-
ber next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear
the said applications and all objections thereto; and I re-
quire all persons having an interest in opposing the grant
of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 19th
day of November next, at this office, particulars in writing
of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise
they will be precluded from urging the same.
