THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

  1. No reward shall be payable until 50,000 ounces of gold
    have been produced from the newly-discovered goldfield
    within three years from the date of its being registered.

  2. Any person discovering new gold-workings, and being
    desirous of obtaining the reward, shall immediately forward
    a written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to
    the Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within
    which such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or
    Resident Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an
    application for reward.

  3. No prospecting will be allowed upon Native land with
    out a prospecting license authorising he person therein
    named, with the consent of the owner of the land to prospect,
    in accordance with the provisions of sections one hundred
    and thirty-five to one hundred and thirty-seven of "The
    Mining Act, 1886," inclusive.
    No reward shall be paid for any discovery that may be
    made upon Native land without the consent of the Native
    owners and the approval of the Minister of Mines.

Sale of Unclaimed Property.

in possession of the police, at the stations named, will,
unless previously claimed, be sold by public auction, at the
respective Police Offices, on Saturday, the 16th proximo, at
noon, in accordance with the Police Regulations :--

Notice of Hearing of Applications for Patents.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 18th January, 1889.

NO. 3494.-JAMES COSMO NEWBERY, of Melbourne, Vic-
toria, temporarily of London, England, Bachelor of
Science, and CLAUDE THEODORE JAMES VAUTIN, of London
aforesaid, Metallurgical Engineer, have deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for a method of sepa-
rating the solid from the liquid parts of sewage.

No. 3495.-JAMES COSMO NEWBERY, of Melbourne, Vic-
toria, temporarily of London, England, Bachelor of Science,
and CLAUDE THEODORE JAMES VAUTIN, of London aforesaid,
Metallurgical Engineer, have deposited at this office a speci-
fication of an invention for an improved process for the sepa-
ration of finely-divided natural mineral or metallic matter
from the liquids in which they are suspended.

No. 3496.-CLAUDE THEODORE JAMES VAUTIN, of London,
England, Metallurgical Engineer, has deposited at this office
a specification of an invention for improvements in the pro-
cess for the extraction of gold by the wet method relating to
its separation from other bodies.

And I have appointed Tuesday, the 20th day of August
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 5th day of
August next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they
will be precluded from urging the same.

office a specification of an invention for improving, by the
use of sulphur in combination with other elements, the
method of preparing skins and hides for tanning.

No. 3491.-FREDERICK EDMONDS, of Kaikohe, Bay of
Islands, Auckland, New Zealand, Contractor, has deposited
at this office a specification of an invention for an improved
churn-beater or separator, to be called "Edmonds's Patent
Screw Churn."

No. 3492.-HENRY CORRICK, of Christchurch, New Zea-
land, Mechanical Engineer, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for a bicycle, to be called "The
Presto."

No. 3493.-ALLAN SKENE, of Riddiford Street, Wellington,
New Zealand, has deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for an improved damper for domestic chim-
neys.

No. 3497.-BENJAMIN WILLS BETTS, of Auckland, New
Zealand, Architect, has deposited at this office a specifica-
tion of an invention for an improved method of wiring or
tying corks or stoppers so as to prevent them from being
forced out of the bottle by pressure from the inside, to be
called "Betts's Patent Stopper-guard."

No. 3498.-JOSIAH CLIFTON FIRTH, of Auckland, New
Zealand, Miller, has deposited at this office a specification of
an invention for a mixed flour, to be called "Firth's Patent
Automatic Flour."

And I have appointed Wednesday, the 8th day of May
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 23rd day of April
next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections
to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be pre-
cluded from urging the same.
