School Commissioner appointed.

Wellington, 22nd May, 1889.

PURSUANT to section 2 of "The Education Reserves
Act 1877 Amendment Act, 1882," His Excellency the
Governor has been pleased to appoint

SIDNEY WEETMAN, Esq.,
to be a School Commissioner for the Provincial District of
Taranaki, vice Thomas Humphries, Esq., resigned.

SPECIAL ORDER.

THAT a special rate of one penny and five-sixteenths of a
penny in the pound be hereby made on the whole of the
rateable property as appearing in the valuation-roll for the
Pohangina Ward of the Kiwitea Road Board (Crown and
Native lands excepted), for the purpose of paying interest on
a loan of £3,300, borrowed under "The Government Loans
to Local Bodies Act, 1886," such rate to be an annual-
recurring one for twenty-six years, and become payable on
the first day of June in each year. Such rate to be in lieu
of special rate previously made, and which was insufficient.
I certify that the above special order was made in accord-
ance with Road Boards Act.

THE following special order, made by the Okain's Bay
Road Board, is published in accordance with "The
Road Boards Act, 1882."

SPECIAL ORDER.

THAT this Board, by this resolution, make a special rate of
three-sixteenths of a penny in the pound on all rateable pro-
perty in the Little Akaloa part of the district, as described
hereunder. Such rate to be an annual-recurring rate for
twenty-six years, and to be payable on the first day of
October in each year, and to be security for a loan from
Government of £500 under "The Local Bodies' Loans Act,
1886." Such loan to be expended in erecting a wharf at
Little Akaloa and forming road to same.

DESCRIPTION OF SPECIAL RATING DISTRICT.

Commencing at intersection of the Stony Bay Beach Road
with the road running through Section 400, and following
that road south-westerly to the boundary between Sections
2462 and 14469; thence south-westerly along that boundary
and the south boundary of Section 14469 to the north-east
boundary of Section 14248; from thence in a north-westerly
direction to its northernmost corner; thence generally south-
westerly along the north-west boundaries of Sections 14248,
22812, 15793, 22830, 20401, 25264, 25294, 26300, 34501, 31421,
35415, 34711, and 23112 to the southernmost corner of Sec-
tion 32248; thence north-westerly to the northernmost corner
of Section 35393; thence south-westerly along the boundaries
of Sections 35393, 35098, 35099, and 35210 to the western-
most corner of the latter section; and from thence south-
easterly along the north-east boundary of Section 34181 to
the West Peak Road; thence south-westerly along that road
to the Waterfall Road; thence in a south-westerly direction
along that road to the north-west corner of Section 34790;
thence southerly along the eastern boundaries of Sections
35832, 35833, and 22789 to the south-east corner of the latter
section; thence westerly along the south boundary of the
latter section to the Summit Road; and from thence follow-
ing the boundaries of the Okain's Bay Road District in a
north-westerly and north-easterly direction to the ocean
beach; and from thence returning along the Beach Road to
the commencing point.

I hereby certify that the above special order was duly
made and confirmed by the Okain's Bay District Road
Board, in conformity with "The Road Boards Act, 1882,"
and "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

Certificate of Execution.

Department of Justice,

THE following certificate and declaration are published
in conformity with the provisions of "The Criminals
Executions Act, 1883."

CERTIFICATE.

I, THOMAS HITCHINGS, the Medical Officer in attendance at
the execution of Haira te Piri, at the prison of Napier, do
hereby certify and declare that I have this day witnessed
the execution of the said Haira te Piri at the said prison;
and I do further certify and declare that the said Haira te
Piri was, in pursuance of the sentence of the Supreme Court,
hanged by the neck until his body was dead.

Given under my hand this thirteenth day of May,
in the year one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-nine, at the prison of Napier.

DECLARATION.

We do hereby testify and declare that we have this day been
present when the extreme penalty of the law was carried
into execution on the body of Haira te Piri, convicted at the
criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, held at Gisborne, on
the twenty-fifth day of March last, and sentenced to death;
and that the said Haira te Piri was, in pursuance of the
said sentence, hanged by the neck until his body was dead.

Dated this thirteenth day of May, in the year one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, at the
prison of Napier.
