NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent
Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has
applied, on behalf of the NEW YORK FIREPROOF PAINT
COMPANY, of No. 85, William Street, New York, in the
United States of America, Paint Manufacturers, to register,
under "The Trade Marks Act, 1866," the trade marks
numbered 1 and 2, of which the following is a description:--
Description of Trade Marks.
No. 1 consists of the device of a star between the letters
"V.F." above and "P.P." beneath, the whole being en-
closed within a circular band bearing the words "Vulcan
Paint," "N.Y. Fireproof Paint Co."
No. 2 consists of the device of the letter "S" bearing the
words "Security against fire," and enclosed within a circular
band bearing the words "Soteria," "N.Y. Fireproof Paint
Co."

NOTICE is hereby given that FRED WALSH, Manager of
Edward Waters's International Patent and Trade
Marks Office, Sydney, in the Colony of New South Wales,
has applied, on behalf of the persons or firm trading as
F. B. WHEELER & Co., at 265, Clarence Street, in the City of
Sydney and Colony of New South Wales aforesaid, Merchants,
to register, under "The Trade Marks Act, 1866," the trade
marks of which the following is a description:--
Description of Trade Marks.
No 1 consists of the special and distinctive word or name
"Electric."
No. 2 consists of a wrapper, the principal feature of which
is a tablet representing the interior of two rooms, in one of
which a lady is shown as playing a piano, and in the other
another female is shown as at a wash tub. Instead of a
division between the rooms a box of soap is represented in
the midst of electric rays with the word "Dingman's" above
it and the word "soap" below it. Above the tablet is
printed matter in two columns, that in one column reading
thus: "Mrs. Sensible uses Dingman's Electric Soap and has
her washing done by 9 o'clock in the morning," and the other
as follows: "Mrs. Foolish don't, and she labors at the wash
tub nearly all day, and is tired out;" above this again are
the words "This wrapper is waxed (not oiled) and answers
for polishing the iron." Beneath the tablet is the word
"Dingman's" above the words "Electric Soap," followed by
printed matter setting out directions for use and other
matter respecting the soap upon which the wrapper is used,
and below all appears the name of the manufacturers and
their address. In a right-hand margin are the words "A
startling domestic revolution" in one line, and in a second
line "Dingman's Electric Soap," followed by printed matter
eulogizing the soap. In a left-hand margin are the words
"For laundry and kitchen use," beneath which is printed
matter further descriptive of the quality and uses of the
soap upon which the wrapper is used.

Reward of £10,000 offered for the Discovery of New Gold
fields.—Amended Conditions.

REWARDS of £10,000 are offered for the discovery of new
goldfields, upon the amended conditions set forth
hereunder.

AMENDED CONDITIONS.
- The maximum sum offered as a reward for any proved
discovery of a new goldfield in accordance with these condi-
tions is £5,000 for the North Island, and £5,000 for the
Middle Island. - The newly-discovered goldfield must be situated not
less than forty miles from any existing goldfield or any
existing workings. - No reward shall be payable until 50,000 ounces of gold
have been produced from the newly-discovered goldfield
within three years from the date of its being registered. - Any person discovering new gold-workings, and being
desirous of obtaining the reward, shall immediately forward
a written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to
the Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within
which such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or
Resident Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an
application for reward. - No prospecting will be allowed upon Native land with-
out a prospecting license authorising the person therein
named, with the consent of the owner of the land, to prospect,
in accordance with the provisions of sections one hundred
and thirty-five to one hundred and thirty-seven of "The
Mining Act, 1886," inclusive.
No reward shall be paid for any discovery that may be
made upon Native land without the consent of the Native
owners and the approval of the Minister of Mines.
Civil Service Senior Examination.

IN pursuance of regulations under "The Civil Service
Reform Act, 1886," notice is hereby given that for the
Senior Examination of January, 1890, the period of litera-
ture will be the latter half of the Eighteenth Century, and
the special books will be Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice,
and Goldsmith's Vicar of Wakefield.
