REMARKS.

August.—Generally showery weather, the maximum rain-
fall recorded on 28th '80in.; prevailing winds from S. and
S.E., and strong on 4th, 5th, and 6th and from N.W.,
and strong from 22nd to 28th; light variable winds
during middle of month; hail on 30th and 31st. Maximum
temperature in shade, 62; minimum, 40. Mean tempera-
ture of dewpoint, 44·6; mean humidity, 82. Earthquake on
16th, at 6.10 a.m., very slight; and on 17th, at 7.20 a.m.,
also slight.

September.—Fine weather during this month, small rain-
fall, the maximum recorded on 6th '34in. (that on the 1st,
'65in., being for the previous 24 hours); wind prevailed from
N.W. and moderate, except fresh on three days; hail-squalls
on 11th and 12th. Maximum temperature in shade, 64;
minimum, 37. Mean temperature of dewpoint, 43·7; mean
humidity, 72. Earthquake on 1st, at 4.15 a.m., long double
shock, E. and W.; on 5th slight and prolonged, E. and W.;
and on 20th, at 10 p.m., slight.

Crown Lands Notices.

Lease of Reserve, Wellington Land District.

Crown Lands Office,
Wellington, 11th December, 1888.

NOTICE is hereby given, in terms of "The Public
Reserves Act, 1881," that tenders will be received at
this office (marked on the outside, "Tender for Lease of Pilot
Reserve, Rangitikei River"), up to 5 p.m. of Friday, the
18th January, 1889, for leasing the Pilot Reserve, Rangitikei
River, for a term of seven years. Forms of tender may be
obtained at the Post Offices at Marton and Bull's, and at
this office, where full particulars may be obtained. A
deposit of £5 must accompany each tender.
