Declaring “The Invercargill Corporation Empowering Act, 1888,” to be in force.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the Colonial Secretary has received from the Mayor of Invercargill a statutory declaration, made by the said Mayor, certifying that a proposal to bring “The Invercargill Corporation Empowering Act, 1888” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), into operation has been submitted to the ratepayers of Invercargill aforesaid, in the same manner as a proposal to raise a special loan under Part IX. of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886;” and that the said ratepayers have consented thereto in manner prescribed by the last-mentioned Act:
And whereas the Mayor of Invercargill has requested that the said Act should be brought into operation, and it appears expedient to make provision therefor:
Now, therefore, His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him in this behalf, doth hereby proclaim and declare that “The Invercargill Corporation Empowering Act, 1888,” shall come into operation on and after the first day of January next.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twelfth day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this thirtieth day of October, 1888.

His Excellency the Governor in Council.
WHEREAS the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken for a public road to be constructed by the Masterton Road Board: And whereas the said land is Native land, and the title to same is not derived from the Crown:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in him by “The Public Works Acts Amendment Act, 1887,” and of all other powers in anywise enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order that a public road, as shown on the plan mentioned below, may be constructed on or through the parcel of land more particularly mentioned in the Schedule hereto.
