Fixing Sitings of the Supreme Court in the Otago and Southland Judicial District.

WE, four of the Judges of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers vested in us by “The Supreme Court Act, 1882,” hereby make the following rules respecting the places and times for holding sittings of the Supreme Court and sittings in Chambers, in the Judicial District of Otago and Southland, for the year 1889:—

Sittings for the trial of criminal cases will be held at the Supreme Courthouse, DUNEDIN, to commence on the following days, at 10 a.m. :—

Monday, 7th January.
Monday, 1st April.
Monday, 1st July.
Monday, 7th October.

Sittings for the trial of civil actions will be held at the Supreme Courthouse, DUNEDIN, to commence on the following days, at 10 a.m. :—

Monday, 14th January.
Monday, 18th March.
Monday, 10th June.
Monday, 8th July.
Monday, 16th September.
Monday, 14th October.

The trial of causes under “The Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Act, 1867,” may take place at any of the above-mentioned sittings for the trial of civil actions.

Sittings of the Court in Banco will be held at the Courthouse, DUNEDIN, every Wednesday, except during vacation, or in the absence of the Judge, or unless the Judge is engaged on other business.

Sittings in Chambers will be held at the Judge’s Chambers, in the Courthouse, DUNEDIN, every Tuesday and Friday, except during vacation, or in the absence of the Judge, or unless the Judge is engaged on other business.

Sittings in Chambers at other times and during vacation, in respect of urgent business, may be held at such times and places as may suit the convenience of the Judge.

Sittings for the trial of criminal and civil cases, and of causes under “The Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Act, 1867,” will be held at the Courthouse, INVERCARGILL, to commence on the following days, at 10 a.m. :—

Tuesday, 9th April.
Tuesday, 13th August.
Tuesday, 10th December.

Sittings for the trial of criminal and civil cases, and of causes under “The Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Act, 1867,” will be held at the Courthouse, OAMARU, to commence on the following days, at 10 a.m. :—

Tuesday, 12th March.
Tuesday, 10th September.

Business in Chambers may be disposed of in the course of these sittings, at such days and hours as the Judge may appoint.

If any of the days above appointed for sittings should be a public holiday, the sittings will commence on the first day after the day so appointed which is not a holiday.

Notice of Hearing of Applications for Patents.

NO. 3371.—ROBERT THOMPSON, of Christchurch, New Zealand, Musicseller, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in apparatus for holding, fixing, and tuning the strings of pianofortes and other stringed instruments of the like kind.

No. 3372.—DANIEL McGILL, of Petone, Wellington, New Zealand, Mechanical Engineer, and ALBERT WILLIAM COLLETT, of the same place, Wheelwright, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for a weight-adjusting dray.

No. 3373.—VALENTINE BLAGROVE, of Richmond, Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand, Master Mariner, and WILLIAM CRAIG, of Symonds Street, Auckland, aforesaid, Plumber, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for Blagrove and Craig’s Patent Steam Curer and Dryer by Hot Air.

No. 3374.—WILLIAM ANDREWS, of Christchurch, New Zealand, Agricultural Engineer, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved horse-power, styled “Andrews’s Simplex Horse-power.”

No. 3375.—ALEXANDER WILLIAM BICKERTON, of Christchurch, New Zealand, Professor of Chemistry, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for a foot-grating for scraping boots and keeping the feet from damp.

No. 3376.—NATHAN LEROY RABER, of Corvallis, Oregon, United States of America, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for improvements in machines for treating finely-divided metalliferous material for the purposes of amalgamation and separation.

And I have appointed Wednesday, the 20th day of March next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 5th day of March next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.

NO. 3377.—GEORGE MARSHALL HEWSON, of Wellington, New Zealand, Commission Agent, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for the manufacture of polony or fish-sausage, to be called or known by the name of “Hewson’s Ika.”

No. 3378.—JOHN JOSEPH HOWARD, of Auckland, New Zealand, Artist, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved cringle clip, hook, or link, to be called “Howard’s Patent Clip.”

No. 3379.—RODERICK McLEOD, of Auckland, New Zealand, Master Mariner, has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved link, clip, or hook, to be called “McLeod’s Patent Universal Link.”

No. 3380.—WILLIAM NEWSHAM BLAIR and PETER SETON HAY, of Wellington, New Zealand, Civil Engineers, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for obtaining gold and auriferous materials from river-bottoms, &c., to be called “The Pneumatic Gold-dredger.”

And I have appointed Thursday, the 21st day of March next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 6th day of March next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.

PATENT for an invention of a steam air-pump for pumping air under pressure, to be known as “The Hydropneumatic Compressor.”

DANIEL McGILL, of Petone, Wellington, New Zealand, Mechanical Engineer, and EDWARD FUHRMANN CLARKE, of Wellington, aforesaid, Civil Engineer, have deposited at this office a specification of the said invention; and I have appointed Thursday, the 23rd day of May next, at 11 o’clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said application and all objections thereto; and I require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 8th day of May next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections to the said application, otherwise they will be precluded from urging the same.

No. 3383.—EDWARD HALE GULLIVER, M.A., of Mangare, Auckland, New Zealand, Clerk in Holy Orders, and BENJAMIN WILLS BETTS, of Mount Eden, Auckland, aforesaid, Architect, have deposited at this office a specification of an invention for an improved lamp, to be called “The Patent Meridian Light,”
