for the North Island Main Trunk Railway, from a Point
at or near Marton to Te Awamutu, via Murimotu, Tau-
maranui, and the Ongaruhu River Valley.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this seventh
day of December, 1887.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto
is required to be taken for a public work authorised
to be constructed by the Government, to wit, the North
Island Main Trunk Railway, from a point at or near Marton
to Te Awamutu, via Murimotu, Taumaranui, and the Onga-
ruhu River Valley:
And whereas the said land is held or occupied by Native
owners:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers
vested in him by "The Public Works, Act, 1882," and the
amendments thereof, and of all other powers in anywise
enabling him in this behalf, His Excellency Sir William
Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the
Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order that
the Government work known as the North Island Main
Trunk Railway, from a point at or near Marton to Te Awa-
mutu, via Murimotu, Taumaranui, and the Ongaruhu River
Valley, shall and may be constructed on or through the
parcels of land more particularly mentioned in the Schedule
hereto.

marked P.W.D. 15097, deposited in the office of the Minister
for Public Works, at Wellington, in the Provincial District
of Wellington, and thereon coloured red.

Amended Regulations for Civil Service Travelling Allow-
ances and Hours of Attendance.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred by
"The Civil Service Act, 1866," and its amendments,
and of all other powers and authorities vested in me in that
behalf, I, James Prendergast, for and on behalf of His
Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
and as his duly-appointed Deputy, do hereby make the
following regulations respecting the travelling allowances
of officers in the Civil Service of New Zealand, and the
hours of attendance, and do direct that the same shall come
into force on the first day of February next ensuing.

REGULATIONS.

For Travelling Allowances.

  1. All salaried officers, except as hereinafter provided, shall
    receive travelling allowance for personal expenses at the
    daily rate of ten shillings for officers receiving salaries not
    exceeding four hundred pounds per annum, and twelve
    shillings and sixpence for all other officers.

  2. These allowances shall be paid only where an officer is
    necessarily absent from his head-quarters at night; but, for
    all journeys where an officer is not obliged to be absent at
    night, actual expenses will be paid to an amount in no case
    exceeding the full daily rate above authorised for personal
    expenses, on production of a statement giving details of the
    nature of the charges, with dates, places, and to whom paid,
    but without being obliged to produce receipts.

  3. The above regulations shall not apply to cases in which
    a temporarily higher rate shall be specially sanctioned by
    a Minister; nor shall anything in these regulations pre-
    clude Ministers from specially authorising temporary special
    rates or amounts for travelling, to meet special cases, as
    hitherto.

  4. Cost of transport by land or sea will be paid by the
    Government, or, when paid by the officer travelling, the same
    will be recouped to him on production of vouchers; but no
    vouchers for such expenses will be required for sums of less
    than ten shillings, and vouchers for railway fares will not be
    required if the railway travelled upon and the extent of
    journey is stated.

  5. For all days at sea, after the first day, an allowance of
    only two shillings and sixpence per diem to be given. For
    the first day at sea, the ordinary allowance may be drawn.

For Hours of Attendance.

  1. The hours of attendance for officers of the Civil Service
    will be from nine o'clock a.m. to one o'clock p.m., and from
