Te Makarini Scholarships.

THREE scholarships of the yearly value of £35, tenable for two years, are offered for competition. One of these scholarships is open to all Maoris that have attended a Native school during the previous year, and are under sixteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination; the other two scholarships are open to all Maoris that are under fifteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination, and that have attended a Native village school for the previous twelve months. These scholarships are offered for competition to Maori youths, on the conditions laid down in the regulations of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund, as printed in the Native Schools Code, 1886, and in the supplementary regulations sent out to all teachers in May of the current year. The examination will be held at convenient centres on the 17th and 18th December, 1888.

Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers, send notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education Department, Wellington, of their intention to present themselves for examination. Such notice must be posted not later than the 31st October next.

Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be obtained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Secretary to the Education Department.

Property-tax.—“Property Assessment Act, 1885,” and its Amendments.

Wellington, 9th October, 1888.

IN accordance with the above Acts, public notice is hereby given that the thirtieth day of November next is the time, and my office, Government Buildings, Wellington, is the place, at which all persons in the colony are required to furnish statements of all real and personal property belonging to them in accordance with the said Acts.

N.B.—Forms of statement will be delivered by Assessors as far as practicable, but, as the duty of procuring such forms is cast upon the public, no person is excused from neglecting to provide himself therewith. All persons, whether liable to taxation or not, are required to furnished statements.

Forms may be obtained from the Local Assessor, or at any Money Order Post Office.

Native Land Court Notices.

Sitting of the Native Land Court.

NOTICE is hereby given that a sitting of the Native Land Court will be held at Waipawa, on Tuesday, the 6th day of November, 1888, for the purpose of ascertaining what amount of compensation ought to be paid to the Native owners of the lands severally known as part of Tahoraite No. 2 Block, containing 28 acres 1 rood 21 perches, and part of Oringi Waiaruhe Block, containing 85 acres and 31 perches, with respect to the land taken under a Proclamation issued under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, on the 23rd day of March, 1888, in addition to land previously acquired for the purposes of the Wellington-Napier Rail-

way; and also for the purpose of ascertaining who are the proper persons entitled to receive such compensation, and what land is affected by the said Proclamation.

NOTICE is hereby given that a Trust Commissioner will, under the authority and for the purposes of the said Acts, hold a Court at the Courthouse, Cambridge, on the 14th day of November, 1888, for investigating the several cases mentioned in the Schedule hereunder, at which time and place all persons interested in the said cases, and having objections to any of the dealings, are hereby notified to attend.
