REEFTON IRRIGATION DISTRICT.

  1. IN accordance with section 39 of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” notice is hereby given that the following is the result of the poll of the ratepayers of the Reefton Irrigation District, in the County of Inangahua, taken on the 5th day of September, 1888, on the proposal to raise a loan of £1,300 for the purpose of increasing the water-supply for the Town of Reefton:—

For the proposal, 112; against the proposal, 1. Total number of votes as appearing on the roll of the Reefton Irrigation District, 178.

A majority of the ratepayers having voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting being entitled to more than one-half in number of the votes which can be exercised, I therefore declare the proposal carried.

BOATMAN’S IRRIGATION DISTRICT.

  1. Result of the poll of the ratepayers of the Boatman’s Irrigation District, in the County of Inangahua, taken on the 5th day of September, 1888, on the proposal to raise a loan of £700 for the purpose of providing a water-supply for the Town of Capleston:—

For the proposal, 28; against the proposal, nil. Total number of votes as appearing on the roll of the Boatman’s Irrigation District, 40.

A majority of the ratepayers having voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting being entitled to more than one-half in number of the votes which can be exercised, I therefore declare the proposal carried.

SIR,—I have the honour to forward you, for the purpose of insertion in the Gazette, results of polls taken by the Masterton Road Board, on the 10th instant, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” as follows:—

  1. On proposal to borrow the sum of £800 for extending the formation of the Wangaehu Road:—
    Number of votes exercisable, 9; recorded for proposal, 5; against, nil; not recorded, 4.

  2. On proposal to borrow the sum of £200 for forming a branch line through Section 9 to Sections 121, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, Kopuaranga Survey District:—
    Number of votes exercisable, 9; recorded for proposal, 5; against, nil; not recorded, 4.

As a majority of the number of ratepayers having a majority of the total number of votes exercisable voted for each proposal, I hereby declare both proposals to be duly carried.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Whataukpo Road District, Cook County.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Whataukpo Road Bord, is published in accordance with “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

WHATAUPOKO ROAD DISTRICT.

I HEREBY give notice that, at a poll of ratepayers of this District, taken upon a proposal by this Board to borrow from the Government a sum of £2,300, in terms of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of metalling streets in North Gisborne and Hapara 3, and erecting a bridge across the Hapara Stream, the following votes were recorded:—

For the proposal, 115 voters, capable of exercising 126 votes; against the proposal, 1 voter, exercising 1 vote; informal vote, 1.

Absent, 89 voters, capable of exercising 93 votes.

As a majority of the ratepayers voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to more than one-half of the votes which can be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers, I declare the resolution in favour of the proposal carried.

SIR,—Herewith I have the honour to enclose copies of two regulations which I have recently made under the provisions of Western Pacific Order in Council of 1879: No. 2, of 1888, for the preservation of good order in the Town and Harbour of Apia, Samoa; and No. 3, of 1888, to prohibit the supply of dynamite to natives of Samoa.

These regulations have been rendered necessary by the denunciation of the Imperial German Government of the convention of the 2nd November, 1879 (whereby the control of the Town and District of Apia was intrusted to a Board consisting of the consular representatives of the three Treaty Powers, and of unofficial members nominated by them), and
