The following remarks apply only to the four principal boroughs:—
The births in July were 239, against 234 in June, an increase of 5. The deaths in July were 103, against 89 in June, an increase of 14.

There were 20 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: a male of 79, and two females of 75 and 67, died at Auckland; eight males of 82 (2), 78 (2), 70, 69 (2), and 68, and six females of 90, 78, 75, 74, 72, and 66, at Wellington; two males of 74 and 70 at Christchurch; and a male of 74 at Dunedin.

Specific Febrile or Zymotic Diseases.—There were 8 deaths from this class of disease in July, including 2 from diphtheria: 1 at Wellington and 1 at Christchurch. In June, diphtheria caused 3 deaths at Wellington and 1 at Auckland. There was only one death from diarrhœal disease in July.

Constitutional Diseases.—There were 22 deaths in this class in July, against 25 in the previous month. The deaths from phthisis were 9 in number, against 10 in June. The deaths from cancer increased in number from 4 to 6. Of these, 5 occurred in Dunedin.

Local Diseases.—These diseases caused 55 deaths in July, against 40 in June. Diseases of the respiratory system were more fatal in July than in the preceding month, the number of deaths being 20 and 12 respectively. Amongst the 20 deaths for July are found 12 from bronchitis, 5 of which occurred at Wellington.

Violent Deaths.—These were only 4 in number. An infant was suffocated at birth, and a child died from burns. There was one case of accidental drowning—an adult, and one suicidal death.
