CENTENNIAL INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION, MEL-
BOURNE.
Beers for exhibition will be classified in the following
manner:—
1.—BULK ALE.
(a.) Running Ale.—Market value, £2 10s. to £3 per hhd.;
light and palatable; to be used within a month, and should
be judged within that time from its coming in.
(b.) Malt Bitter Ale.—Market value, £4 to £4 10s. per
hhd.; light, palatable, and sound; flavour of hop, brewed
without sugar, and to keep for six or twelve months if neces-
sary.
(c.) Strong Ale, XXXX.—Market value, £5 or over;
characteristics after style and taste of imported British ale,
and to keep good and sound quite as long.
(d.) Stout in Bulk.—Market value, £5; one class will be
ample.
2.—BOTTLED ALE AND STOUT.
(a.) Ordinary Sparkling Ale.—To be judged within a
month; price, about 4s. 6d. per dozen.
(b.) Malt Bitter Ale.—To keep any time required; about
5s. 6d. per dozen.
(c.) Strong Ale.—To keep any time required; about 7s. 6d.
per dozen.
(d.) Stout.—To be judged within a month; price, about
4s. 6d. per dozen.
Selling prices to be verified by affidavit.
The jury to have special regard, in judging, to the follow-
ing conditions: (1.) Brilliance. (2.) Full flavour. (3.)
Natural stability of head. (4.) General condition as to age
and class. (5.) Selling price.
DESIGNS FOR CERTIFICATES AND MEDALS.
The Commissioners invite designs for the certificate of
award. The size of the actual design itself, without margin,
to be about 20 inches by 16 inches. All designs must be
executed in Indian ink. A space of about 12 inches by
6 inches must be left in the design for the certificate for the
insertion of the name of the exhibitor, other printed matter,
and signatures.
The Commissioners also invite models in relief for the
Exhibition medals. All models must show the Queen’s head
on the obverse, and a design on the reverse, and shall be
6 inches in diameter. As a guide to competitors, they are
informed that the bronze medal will be 3 inches, the silver
2 inches, and the gold 1¼ inches in diameter.
All designs for certificate, and models for the medals, must
be marked with a motto or device, and accompanied by a
sealed envelope marked with the same device containing the
name and address of the author, and must be lodged at the
office of the Commissioners before 12 noon on the 30th Sep-
tember, 1888.
The Commissioners offer premiums of 100 guineas each
for the accepted design and model, which will become their
property. In the event of none of the designs and models
for the certificate or medals respectively being considered of
sufficient merit, the Commissioners do not bind themselves to
select any of those sent in.

has been pleased to pronounce the under-mentioned
agricultural lease cancelled, and that the ground is now
open for application as if no lease of the said ground had
ever been applied for:—

Office, Dunedin, on Tuesday, the 26th June, 1888, at
noon.
TOWNSHIPS.
Town Sections in Glenorchy, Kurow, and Ophir; upset
price, £30 per acre.
Suburban Sections 2 to 6, Block VIII., and 1 to 9, Block
IX., 1 acre each, Dunkeld; upset price, £4 10s. per acre.
Sections 18 to 23, Block VII., Kelso, from 1 to 9 acres each;
upset price, £3 per acre. Sections 5 and 7 to 23, Block XV.,
Sutton District, from 8 to 22 acres each; upset price, £3
per acre. Sections 6 to 9 and 10 to 13, Block IV., Waikou-
aiti, ¼ acre each; upset price, £3 per acre.
SMALL GRAZING RUNS.
BENGER DISTRICT.—Sections 7, 10, 11 (grouped), Block
XIII., 810 acres; upset annual rental, at 6d. per acre, £20 5s.
KUROW DISTRICT.—(Subdivision of Run No. 23) No. 6 of
23, about 7,212 acres; upset annual rental, at 3d. per acre,
£90 3s.; improvements, £109.
PARTICULARS.—Term of lease, twenty-one years. Pur-
chasers must deposit on sale the required statutory declara-
tion, and pay the first half-year’s rent, with lease and
registration-fee. Valuation for improvements payable within
fourteen days after purchase.
PASTORAL LICENSES.
Run No. 14, about 18,800 acres, Earnslaw District, four-
teen years; upset rental, £30 per annum.
Run No. 19, about 33,500 acres, Earnslaw District, four-
teen years; upset rental, £20 per annum.
Run No. 346, about 14,300 acres, Glenorchy District, four-
teen years; upset rental, £20 per annum.
Run No. 346D, about 16,000 acres, Glenorchy District, four-
teen years; upset rental, £25 per annum.
Run No. 217B, about 17,170 acres, Waihemo District, ten
years; upset rental, £150 per annum.
Run No. 419, about 10,900 acres, Kinloch District, four-
teen years; upset rental, £10 per annum.
NOTE.—Possession on day of sale, except Runs Nos. 217B
and 419, which will not be given till the 1st March, 1889.
The upset rentals have been considerably reduced.
The licenses of the foregoing runs will be sold subject to
the provisions contained in “The Land Act, 1885,” and
“The Land Act Amendment Act, 1887.”

NOTICE is hereby given, in terms of section 188 of
“The Land Act, 1885,” to JOHN CHARLES CAMERON,
occupier of Run 140B, that the same is liable to forfeiture;
and if the rent, together with the full amount of penalty, be
not paid within three months from date, the license to
occupy the said run will be declared forfeited.
