THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Wallace County Council, is published in accordance with “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

PROPOSAL TO BORROW £900 FOR BRIDGE OVER JACOB’S RIVER.
I, William Johnston, Chairman of the Wallace County Council, do hereby notify that the result of the poll of the ratepayers of Aparima Riding of Wallace County, taken on the 25th day of May, 1888, on the proposal to borrow £900, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for the construction of bridge over Jacob’s River, on road Riverton to Otatau, is as follows:—
Number of ratepayers on the roll, 236; number of votes exercisable, 335. There voted in favour of the proposal, 52 voters; representing 88 votes. There voted against the proposal, 1 voter; representing 2 votes.
As less than one-half the ratepayers voted in favour of the proposal, I do hereby declare the proposal to be rejected.

A label, in the centre of which is a lithographic picture of Osborne House; at top of picture, in a square, the word “Newberry’s;” below the picture, in a square, the words “Baking Powder.” These words and the picture are surrounded by a border printed in red ink; all the label, except the border, being printed in blue ink. At the left of the picture are printed “Directions for use,” and at the right an announcement as to price of canisters and where baking-powder procurable, &c.; both of these being surrounded by a red border.
