Notice of Intention to declare that certain Land at Lyttelton shall be kept free from Obstruction for Defence Purposes.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” and “The Public Works Act 1882 Amendment Act, 1885,” to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of works for the purposes of defence at Lyttelton, and for the purposes of such public work it will be necessary that the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall be kept free from obstruction; and notice is further given that the plans of the land so required to be kept free from obstruction are deposited in the Public Works Office, at Christchurch, and are there open for inspection by all persons at all reasonable hours. And notice is hereby given that all persons affected by the said land being required to be kept free from obstruction shall, if they have any well-grounded objections to the said land being so kept free from obstruction, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the publication of this notice, to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.

Reward of £10,000 offered for the Discovery of New Goldfields.—Amended Conditions.

REWARDS of £10,000 are offered for the discovery of new goldfields, upon the amended conditions set forth hereunder.

AMENDED CONDITIONS.

  1. The maximum sum offered as a reward for any proved discovery of a new goldfield in accordance with these conditions is £5,000 for the North Island, and £5,000 for the Middle Island.

  2. The newly-discovered goldfield must be situated not less than forty miles from any existing goldfield or any existing workings.

  3. No reward shall be payable until 50,000 ounces of gold have been produced from the newly-discovered goldfield within three years from the date of its being registered.

  4. Any person discovering new gold-workings, and being desirous of obtaining the reward, shall immediately forward a written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to the Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within which such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or Resident Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an application for reward.

  5. No prospecting will be allowed upon Native land without a prospecting license authorising the person therein named, with the consent of the owner of the land, to prospect, in accordance with the provisions of sections one hundred and thirty-five to one hundred and thirty-seven of “The Mining Act, 1886,” inclusive.

No reward shall be paid for any discovery that may be made upon Native land without the consent of the Native owners and the approval of the Minister of Mines.

Bonus for Canned and Cured Fish for Export.

IT is hereby notified that bonuses under “The Fisheries Encouragement Act, 1885,” as set forth in the following sections (Nos. 8, 9, and 10) of that Act, will be paid subject to the conditions named therein, and in the regulations contained in the Order in Council of even date herewith.

JULIUS VOGEL.

  1. In order to encourage the production and curing of fish for export, the Colonial Treasurer shall during the next seven years after the passing of this Act, without further appropriation by Parliament, pay out of the Consolidated Fund to any person who shall prepare canned and cured fish
