bonus shall register a special trade-mark under the laws for
the time being in force in New Zealand providing for the
registration of trade-marks, such trade-mark to be used for
all cured and canned fish to be prepared for export by such
person, and shall, within six years after the passing of this
Act, give notice to the Treasurer of his intention to export
canned and cured fish with a view to applying for a bonus,
and shall append to such notice a copy of such trade-mark ;
and all cases, barrels, or cans containing fish cured and
canned for export by any such person shall, before exporta-
tion, be marked with the trade-mark so registered by him,
and no part of any such bonus shall be payable except in
respect of cases, barrels, or cans so marked.
Progress-payments for Exported Fish.

WITH reference to the notification in the New Zealand
Gazette of the 12th November, 1885, respecting the
payment of bonuses to persons who prepare canned and
cured fish for export under regulations published on the
same date, it is hereby notified that progress-payments on
account of such bonuses, claimed in accordance with those
regulations, will now be made by this department. Claims
to be for quantities not less than one ton net weight, and to
be sent through the Collector of Customs at the port from
which the fish was exported.

and for raising or lowering same by means of spiral springs,
to be called "Macalister and Walker's Burglar-proof Sash
Side Fastener and Sash-elevator."

Westland, New Zealand, Civil Engineer, has deposited at
this office a specification of an invention for the retrograde
tail-race for saving gold.
No. 2995.—SAMUEL STUART, of Kaikohe, Bay of Islands,
New Zealand, Photographer, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for cleaning and polishing all
kinds of plate, jewellery, trinkets, electroplated goods, bur-
nished steel, nickel silver, polished brass or copper, picture
frames, and every description of polished metallic surface,
the said invention to be entitled "The Electric Plate-polish."

HAROLD HOWARD, and JOHN HOWARD HOWARD, carrying
on business at the Britannia Ironworks, Bedford, England,
under the style or firm of "James and Frederick Howard," as
Agricultural-implement Makers, have deposited at this office
a specification of an invention for Howards' patent re-
versible sectional ploughshare.
No. 2998.—GEORGE JOHNSTON, of Cobden, Greymouth,
New Zealand, Architect, has deposited at this office a speci-
fication of an invention for a washing-machine, to be entitled
"The Jubilee Washer: Johnston's Improved Patent."
No. 2999.—CHARLES JOSEPH COOZE, of Cumberland Street,
Dunedin, New Zealand, Carriage-trimmer, and DANIEL
MITCHELL BARNETT, of Albany Street, Dunedin aforesaid,
French Polisher, have deposited at this office a specification
of an invention for a shield clothes-rack.
And I have appointed Thursday, the 27th day of September
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto ; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such

Kaikora, Hawke's Bay aforesaid, Cattle-spayer, have de-
posited at this office a specification of an invention for
the cure of asthma, and to be called "Hastie and Tindall's
Patent Cure for Asthma."
No. 3004.—CHARLES THOMAS PATTIE, of Riwaka, Nelson,
New Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at this office a speci-
fication of an invention for dispersing the various kinds of
fluids for destroying blights, codlin moth, and all manner of
insect pests, designated "The New Zealand Eureka Mist
Nozzle."

ance Agent, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for improvements in dry-earth and other closets.

of an invention for Hosking's compressed-air spraying
machine, which will facilitate and save labour and expense in
spraying trees, plants, apartments, &c., with a fine and con-
tinuous spray of water, or liquid insecticides or fungicides,
&c., and as an irrigator for wounds in surgery.

of 84, Newton Road, Sydney, New South Wales, Gentleman
has deposited in this office a specification of an invention for
improvements in explosive compounds, called "Neokratine."
