Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Borough of Onehunga.

Colonial Secretary’s Office,
Wellington, 30th December, 1887.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Onehunga, is published in accordance with “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”

G. F. RICHARDSON,
(In the absence of the Colonial Secretary.)

Onehunga Borough Council Office,
21st December, 1887.

SIR,—I have the honour to inform you that a poll of the burgesses was this day taken on a proposal of the Onehunga Borough Council, agreed to on the 18th November last, that the Council of the Borough of Onehunga propose to construct and complete waterworks for the supply of pure water to the inhabitants of Onehunga, and for this purpose to raise money by way of special loan for a term of not more than twenty-one years. The sum proposed to be borrowed for such purpose is £5,000. The security which it is proposed to pledge to provide for the interest and sinking fund of such loan consists of the waterworks plant now used for the supply of water to the shipping at Onehunga Wharf, the whole of the waterworks proposed to be constructed, the present and future income arising and to arise from those two sources, and the rents and profits arising from the general reserves now vested in the Borough of Onehunga, and revenue derivable under the provisions of “The Licensing Act, 1881;” and that the poll resulted as follows :—

Number of burgesses who polled for the proposal, 234; number of votes exercised by those burgesses in favour of the proposal, 296; number of burgesses who voted against the proposal, 6; number of votes exercised by those burgesses against the proposal, 7; number of burgesses abstaining from voting, 184; number of votes exercisable by those burgesses abstaining from voting, 232. The number of burgesses on the roll is 424; the number of votes to which these burgesses are entitled is 535.

As the number of burgesses who voted for the proposal exceeds one-half of the number of burgesses on the roll, and the votes exercised by those burgesses so voting exceeds one-half of the number of votes which can be exercised by the whole number of burgesses on the roll, I therefore declare the proposal duly carried.

W. G. SCOTT,
Mayor.

I, William George Scott, of Onehunga, Mayor, hereby declare : 1. That the proposal attached hereto was duly made and carried by the Onehunga Borough Council. 2. That the proceedings required by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses to the proposal have been duly taken. 3. That the resolution in favour of the proposal has been duly carried this day.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

W. G. SCOTT,
Mayor.

Made and declared at Onehunga, this 21st day of December, 1887, before me—William Robert Erson, J.P., Onehunga.
