THE following special order, made by the Alfredton Road Board, is published in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Alfredton Road Board at a Meeting held on Tuesday, the 25th Day of October, 1887.

THAT a special order be now made, making or levying the after-mentioned special rates, for repayment of moneys borrowed under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886:”—

A special rate of 3d. in the pound on the rateable value of the following properties: Sections Nos. 10, 12, 13, 15, 18, 19, 21, 22, 27, 28, 28A, 28B, 30, 31, 30A, 30B, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 16, Block VII., Mangaone Survey District; and Sections Nos. 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, Block XI., same survey district.

For repayment of a loan of £835, and which special rate is pledged as security for said loan.

A special rate of 1¼d. in the pound on the rateable value of the following properties: Sections Nos. 145, 146, 150, 151, 196, 84, 82, 85, Block XVI., Mangaone Survey District; and 1,000 acres, being a portion of Section No. 210, part of Blocks XIII. and XIV., Puketoi, Block I., Mangapakeha, Block XVI., Mangaone Survey District.

For repayment of a loan of £300, and which special rate is pledged as security for said loan.

A special rate of 2¼d. in the pound on the rateable value of the following properties: Sections Nos. 12, 17, 20, 30, Block XI., Mangaone Survey District.

For repayment of a loan of £80, and which special rate is pledged as security for said loan.

The said special rates are annually recurring for twenty-six years, and are payable on the first day of August in each year.

I certify that the foregoing special order was duly made by the Alfredton Road Board, at a meeting held on Tuesday, the 25th day of October, 1887, in accordance with law.

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, County of Wallace.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Wallace Council Council, is published in accordance with “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

WALLACE COUNTY COUNCIL.

PROPOSAL to borrow £1,500 for Bridges over Jacob’s River and Duck Creek.

I, WILLIAM JOHNSTON, Chairman of the Wallace County Council, do hereby notify that the result of the poll of the ratepayers of part of Otautau Riding of Wallace County, taken on the 19th day of October, 1887, on the proposal to borrow £1,500 under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for the construction of bridges over Jacob’s River and Duck Creek, is as follows:—

Number of ratepayers on the roll, 243; number of votes exercisable, 313. For proposal, 7 ratepayers voted, representing 7 votes. Against proposal, 8 ratepayers voted, representing 18 votes.

As the number of votes in favour of the proposal is less than one-half the votes that can be exercised, I do hereby declare the proposal to be rejected.

Notice to Mariners, No. 41 of 1887.

WAIMAKARIRI RIVER, KAIAPOI.

Wellington, N.Z., 8th November, 1887.

WITH reference to Notice to Mariners No. 26, of the 20th July last, the Waimakariri Harbour Board has given notice that the flagstaff has been re-erected near the bar of the Waimakariri River, and that the signals prescribed by the General Harbour Regulations are shown therefrom.

The flagstaff is erected on a sandhill, and is about three-quarters of a mile inland from the bar, and 300 yards south of the mouth of the river. It is 54ft. high, painted white, and the yard is 30ft. from the ground. There is a small house at the foot of the staff, which should be seen at a distance of two miles to seaward.

Alterations in and Additions to the Scale of Charges in force on the New Zealand Railways.

IN accordance with section 144 of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” I, Edwin Mitchelson, the Minister for Public Works, do hereby make the following alterations in and additions to the scale of charges, to come into force on and after the 14th November, 1887:—

PART III.—GOODS.

REGULATIONS.

(5.) Class H.—Scoured wool, undumped, in bales not exceeding 2¾cwt. each, will be charged one-fifth less than the classified rates. Minimum charge, 1s. per bale. This will supersede the local rates specified in Part IV. where bales do not exceed 2¾cwt.

PART IV.—LOCAL RATES.

NAPIER SECTION.

Soap, packed, from Awatoto to Napier or Spit, will be charged 3s. 6d. per ton. Minimum, 2 tons.

HURUNUI—BLUFF SECTION.

Class H.

Wool, undumped, consigned to Dunedin or Port Chalmers, will be charged as follows from the stations named, viz.,—

Heriot, Waipahi, and intermediate stations, 9d. per bale less than the classified rates.

Lawrence and Waitahuna, 6d. per bale less than the classified rates.

Wairuna, Stirling, and intermediate stations, 6d. per bale less than the classified rates.

Wool, undumped, from Waimate to Timaru, Oamaru, or Breakwater, will be charged 4d. per bale less than the classified rates.

Wool, undumped, from Duntroon to Oamaru or Breakwater, will be charged 4d. per bale less than the classified rates.

Waimate District Railway.

Class H (undumped) will be charged 1d. per bale per mile upon the Waimate District Railway.

Cement, Walton Park to Oamaru Breakwater.

Cement manufactured from colonial products, from Walton Park to Oamaru Breakwater, will be charged 10s. per ton. Minimum quantity, 4 tons.
