Quarantine Regulations.

(L.S.) Wm. F. DRUMMOND JERVOIS,
Governor.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, in exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by “The Public Health Act, 1876” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), have recently declared, by Proclamation, that the Colony of Tasmania is infected with the disease called “small-pox:” And whereas by the ninety-second section of the said Act the Governor is authorised from time to time to make, vary, or revoke regulations concerning quarantine and the prevention of infection as therein specified, and it appears expedient to make the regulation hereinafter contained:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby make the regulation contained in the Schedule hereto, and do hereby declare that the same shall come into force and take effect as from the date of the publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.

SCHEDULE.

REGULATION.

  1. In any case where a vessel arrives at any port or place in New Zealand, or within one league’s distance of the coast of New Zealand, from or having touched at any port or place in the Colony of Tasmania, having on board a medical officer who certifies in writing that small-pox did not exist on board such vessel at the time of sailing or departure, and that no case of small-pox has developed itself on board such vessel during the voyage; that he has, within twenty-four hours previous to the vessel’s arrival, inspected such vessel and all the passengers and crew thereof; and that there is, in his opinion, nothing to prevent the vessel’s admission to pratique; and if, after the inspection referred to in the one hundred and seventh section of the said Act, no symptoms of small-pox are discovered on such vessel by the Health Officer (if a medical practitioner), or by any medical practitioner assisting the Health Officer in such inspection, then such vessel may be admitted to pratique, any regulations to the contrary notwithstanding.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-fourth day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven.

T. W. HISLOP.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!
