THE results of the collection made in March last, arranged in two tables, are published for general information.

Note.—In the returns of Agricultural Statistics as above summarized, gardens (8,670 acres), orchards (14,215 acres), plantations of forest-trees (28,119 acres), holdings of one acre or less in extent, and holdings occupied by aboriginal natives, are not included. The total acreage in the column “In other crops” (22,002 acres) includes 4,720 acres in maize and sorghum, 1,011 in rye and bere, 9,206 in peas and beans, 4,348 in mangold, beet, carrots, parsnips, and onions, 528 in hops, 10 in tobacco, and 2,179 in other crops. The decrease of grass land in Marlborough is attributed to the last two very dry seasons.
