The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases.
The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 510 against 430 in February, an increase of 80. The deaths in March were 290, an increase of 80 on the number for February. Of the total deaths, males contributed 162; females, 128. One hundred and seventy-six of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 60·69 per cent. of the whole number; 147 of these were under 1 year of age.
- This is the Census population in 1886.
THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and upwards, and the Proportion per Cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin, that were registered during the Month of March, 1887.
