Civil Service Examinations.—Mr. C. A. Semadeni has passed.

Wellington, 24th March, 1887.
THE Minister of Education has instructed me to notify
that Mr. C. A. Semadeni—educated at Waipu Cove
School (3 years), Rautangata West School (5 years), Pon-
sonby School (9 months), and Auckland College and Gram-
mar School (2½ years)—passed both the Junior and the
Senior Civil Service Examinations in October, 1886.
In the Junior Examination Mr. Semadeni's place is be-
tween the 4th and 5th in the list published in the New
Zealand Gazette, 23rd December, 1886; and in the Senior
Examination his place is at the head of the list. The marks
obtained by him (the possible number being 600 for each
subject) were as follows:—

NOTICE is hereby given that the Town Board of Aro-
whenua, on or about the 7th day of September, 1886,
duly passed a resolution to the effect that it desires to adopt
“The Rating Act, 1882,” and that such resolution is in the
words and figures following, namely:—
“That this Board adopt ‘The Rating Act, 1882.’”

have deposited at this office a specification of the said
invention; and I have appointed Tuesday, the 14th day of
June next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to

require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant
of such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 30th day
of May next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
