plementary Government Gazette of 8th January, 1885, pursuant to the provisions of “The Imported Stock Act of 1871,” amongst other things, scab in sheep was declared to be an infectious or contagious disease: And whereas there is reason to believe that scab at the present time exists in sheep both in the Colony of New Zealand and also in the Colony of Western Australia: Now, therefore, I, Charles Robert, Baron Carrington, the Governor aforesaid, with the advice of the Executive Council, do, by this my Proclamation, declare that no sheep, fodder, or fittings used for sheep shall be imported or introduced into this colony for a further period of twelve months from 5th instant from either of the Colonies of New Zealand or Western Australia.
Given under my hand and seal, at Government House, Sydney, this eleventh day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven, and in the fiftieth year of Her Majesty’s reign.

BARON CARRINGTON, a Member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of New South Wales and its Dependencies.

WHEREAS by section three of an Act passed in the forty-eighth year of the reign of Her present Majesty, intituled “The Imported Stock Act Amendment Act of 1884,” it is enacted that the term “stock” shall, in addition to cattle and sheep, include goats, swine, dogs, and such other animals as the Governor may, by Proclamation published in the Government Gazette, declare to be subject to the provisions of the said Act and of “The Imported Stock Act of 1871.” And whereas by section ten of the said last-mentioned Act the Governor is empowered, by Proclamation in the Government Gazette, to restrict or absolutely prohibit for any specified time the importation or introduction of any stock, fodder, or fittings from any other colony or country in which there is reason to believe any infectious or contagious disease in stock exists: And whereas there is reason to believe that both infectious and contagious diseases in stock at the present time exist throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and America, and all other parts of the world except the Australian Colonies: Now, therefore, I, Charles Robert, Baron Carrington, the Governor aforesaid, with the advice of the Executive Council, do, by this my Proclamation, prohibit the importation or introduction of any cattle, sheep, goats, or swine from Europe, Asia, Africa, or America, or any place not being within the Australian Colonies, as defined by the said last-mentioned Act, for a further period of twelve months, from the first day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven.
Given under my hand and seal, at Government House, Sydney, this fourteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven, and in the fiftieth year of Her Majesty’s reign.

Special Order made by County of Wairarapa South.—Constituting Special Rating Districts.

THE following special order, made by the Council of the County of Wairarapa South, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

SPECIAL ORDER.
RESOLVED, That the following properties be constituted a special rating district for Martinborough–Pahaua Road, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” with the view of levying a special rate therein to pay the instalments required on a loan of £650 under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886:”—
The properties in the Gladstone Riding occupied respectively by Messrs. F. Read, D. Cameron, W. and D. Sutherland’s estate, A. Douglas, D. and P. McLaren, William McLaren, and John Tully; and the properties in the Awhea Riding occupied respectively by John Tully, John Cameron, William McLaren, and Peter McLaren, as they are described in the assessment roll now in force under the numbers following respectively: W 95/20, 22, 24, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 31, and W 100/2, 16, 18, 19.
And that the following properties be constituted a special rating district for Gladstone–Wainuioru Road, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” with the view of levying a special rate therein to pay the instalments required for a loan of £600 under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886:”—
The properties in the Gladstone Riding occupied respectively by Messrs. W. and H. Beetham, Frederick Moore and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, F. W. Hales and S. Vennell, James Cooper, as they are described in the assessment roll now in force under the numbers following respectively: W 94/561, 565, 566, 567, 568, 576; together with a portion of the property occupied by W. C. Buchanan, numbered in assessment roll W 94/542, to wit, 500 acres, being part of Mungaraki Block, and parts of Sections 59 and 61, and the whole of Sections 41, 42, 55, 57, 58—in all about 1,920 acres.
I hereby declare that the foregoing special order was duly passed by the Wairarapa South County Council in accordance with law.

THE following special order, made by the Taratahi-Carterton Road Board, County of Wairarapa South, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

SPECIAL ORDER.
RESOLVED, That this Board, by special order, constitute the under-mentioned areas or properties to be special rating districts under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and make or levy the several special rates upon the same, as hereinafter mentioned, to wit:—
Somerset Road Special Rating District, containing Sections 117, 118, 120, 121, 88, 89, 144, 171, 1, 119, and parts of Sections 22, 23, 24, 116, 122, and 145, in the Tiffin Survey District, Taratahi Plain Block, fronting White’s line, having a total rateable value of £9,591. The special rate required to be made, and hereby ordered to be made and levied, is twenty-one thirty-eighths of a penny in the pound, payable in one instalment on the first Saturday in the month of April, 1887, and annually recurring for twenty-five subsequent years upon the same day.
Opuakaio Road Special Rating District, containing Sections 343 and 348, Tiffin Survey District, Taratahi Plain Block, having a total rateable value of £1,800. The special rate required to be made, and hereby ordered to be made and levied, is seven-eighteenths of a penny in the pound, payable in one instalment on the first Saturday in the month of April, 1887, and annually recurring for twenty-five subsequent years upon the same day.
Woodland Road Special Rating District, containing parts of Sections 113, 217, 289, 291, 319, 114, and the whole of Sections 113A, 290, 293, and 294, in the Tiffin Survey District, Taratahi Plain Block, having a total rateable value of £4,826. The special rate required to be made, and hereby ordered to be made and levied, is nineteen forty-eighths of a penny in the pound, payable in one instalment on the first Saturday in the month of April, 1887, and annually recurring for twenty-five subsequent years upon the same day.
The whole of the foregoing special rates to be applied to the payment of the annual instalments to be paid to the Government in respect of the several sums granted to this Board under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the roads above stated.
I hereby certify that the foregoing special order was passed by the Taratahi-Carterton Road Board in accordance with law.
