Notification of the Entry into Negotiations for the Purchase
of Native Lands in the North Island.

IN pursuance of the provisions of "The Government Native
Land Purchases Act, 1877," it is hereby notified that
negotiations on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen for the
purchase or acquisition of the block of Native land in the
North Island, which is more particularly described and men-
tioned in the Schedule hereto, have been entered into.
SCHEDULE.
OPUATIA.
ALL that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Auck-
land, containing by admeasurement 45,500 acres, more or
less, situate at Taupari and Opuatia, in the District of
Waikato, and called or known by the name of Ngatitipa's
land. Bounded towards the North by the Tapairu Creek
and by lines, 1077 links, 3123 links, 202 links, 16900 links,
7549 links, 1559 links, 5297 links, 13212 links, 11925 links,
1645 links, 8000 links, 1390 links, 963 links, 1553 links, 1912
links, 2364 links, 1185 links, 2600 links, and 1921 links,
to the Waikato River, opposite the Island Korakonui;
towards the East by the Waikato River to Te Karaka and
by a line to Rakaumutu on the Opuatia River, 35200 links;
towards the South by the said Opuatia River and by lines,
1904 links, 4900 links, 456 links, 1020 links, 44000 links, and
33260 links, to Whakapaekai, on the Waikato River afore-
said; and towards the West by the Waikato River afore-
said, to the mouth of the Tapairu Creek first mentioned,
and numbered 181n.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this twenty-fourth day of December, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-six.
