Steam Service to certain Places and Ports on the West Coast of the Middle Island, South of Hokitika.
General Post Office,
Wellington, 16th October, 1886.
SEALED Tenders will be received at the General Post Office, Wellington, until noon of Tuesday, the 30th November proximo, for the performance of one or the other of the following alternative services:—
Between Hokitika and Okarito, Bruce Bay, Paringa, Haast River (or Okuru), Jackson’s Bay, Big Bay, Martin’s Bay, Milford Sound, and Dusky Sound once every month and also once every two months.
Or between Hokitika and Bruce Bay, Jackson’s Bay, Big Bay, Martin’s Bay, Milford Sound, and Dusky Sound (when required), Bluff, Invercargill, and Dunedin, calling at Paringa and Haast River (or Okuru) whenever weather permits, once every month and also once every two months.
The services to be for a period of twelve months, with the right of renewal or termination, on two months’ notice being given by either side, at the end of the contract term.
The services to be performed in accordance with time-tables to be furnished by the Postmaster-General, and to commence on a date hereafter to be fixed by the Postmaster-General.
Tenderers to state the names, tonnage, and horse-power of the vessels to be employed in the services.
The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.
Tenders to be addressed to the Hon. the Postmaster-General, and indorsed “Tender for West Coast Ports Steam Service.”

Fixing Sittings of the Supreme Court at New Plymouth.
WE, three of the Judges of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers vested in us by “The Supreme Court Act, 1882,” hereby appoint a sitting of the Supreme Court to be held at the Courthouse, at New Plymouth, on Tuesday, the thirtieth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six, at half-past ten o’clock in the forenoon, for the trial of civil cases.
Given under our hands, at Wellington, this twenty-second day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six.

PURSUANT to the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, passed in the forty-fourth year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, and intituled “The Marriage Act, 1880,” the following name of an Officiating Minister within the meaning of the said Act is published for general information:—

Notice to Persons in whom is vested Ecclesiastical Authority over Religious Bodies.

THE attention of the persons or person within the Colony of New Zealand in whom is vested ecclesiastical authority over any of the religious bodies enumerated in the Schedule B annexed to an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Marriage Act, 1880,” and of all other persons concerned, is directed to the eleventh section of the above-mentioned Act, requiring the several ecclesiastical authorities as aforesaid to send in to the Registrar-General a correct list, in the month of December in every year, of the Officiating Ministers within the meaning of “The Marriage Act, 1880,” of each of the said religious bodies.
The following are the religious bodies above referred to:—
The Church of the Province of New Zealand, commonly called the Church of England.
The Presbyterian Church of New Zealand.
The Roman Catholic Church.
The Presbyterian Church of Otago and Southland.
The Wesleyan Methodist Society.
All Congregational Independents.
Baptists.
The Primitive Methodist Connexion.
The United Methodist Free Churches.
The Lutheran Church.
All Hebrew Congregations.
The Society of Friends.
In default of any person having ecclesiastical authority over any of the religious bodies named above, the name of the Officiating Minister of any congregation of such religious body may be certified to by two recognized office-holders thereof.
With respect to Ministers of Religion not connected with any of the aforesaid bodies, it is necessary that a certificate, signed by twenty-four householders resident in the district, declaring that such Minister is their Officiating Minister, the said certificate being attested by some person, verified by a declaration before a Justice of the Peace, shall be sent to the Registrar-General in the month of December in each year. The neglect in sending such last-named certificate will deprive the Minister of his status as an Officiating Minister under the Marriage Act.

NOTICE is hereby given that applications will be received at this office for the appointment of Engineer Surveyor and Inspector of Machinery attached to this department.
Applicants to be eligible for this appointment must have served an apprenticeship as an engineer or iron shipbuilder, must be not less than twenty-five and not more than forty-five years of age, and must have served at sea in charge of engines for at least five years. They must also, at the time of application, possess a first-class certificate of competency as engineer.
Applicants must give full particulars of their service on shore and at sea, and forward copies of any letters of recommendation, testimonials, discharges, and certificates that they may possess.
