A PROCLAMATION.
IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
vested in the Governor by "The Marriage Act, 1880," I,
William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, do hereby abolish the existing
marriage districts known as the Hyde, Hamilton's, Pal-
merston, Waikouaiti, and West Taieri Districts, and do
proclaim and declare that the territory heretofore comprised
within the said districts is hereby divided anew into six
marriage districts, the names and boundaries whereof shall
be as follow:—
HYDE DISTRICT.
Comprises all that area bounded towards the North gene-
rally by the Taieri River, from the confluence of the Kyeburn
with that river to the confluence of the Horseburn with the
said Taieri River; thence towards the North-west by the
County of Maniototo; towards the North-east by the summit
of the Kakanui Mountains to a point opposite to the source
of Happy Valley Creek; thence towards the South-east
generally by that creek to the Waihemo or Shag River;
thence towards the South by that river to its confluence with
Deepdell Creek, and by that creek to the north-west corner
of Block VI., Waihemo Survey District; thence again
towards the North-east by the said Block VI. and Blocks III.
and IV., Dunback Survey District; again towards the South-
east by the last-mentioned block and Blocks VII. and VIII.,
Dunback Survey District; towards the East by Block IX.,
Dunback Survey District, as far as the north branch of the
Waikouaiti River; towards the South generally by the
Counties of Waikouaiti and Taieri respectively; and towards
the West by the Puketoi Riding of the County of Maniototo
to the Taieri River; and thence to the place of commence-
ment.
HAMILTON'S DISTRICT.
Comprises all that area bounded towards the South-east
by the Hyde District, hereinbefore described, and the Taieri
County, from the Taieri River to Lammerlaw Stream;
towards the West generally by the Counties of Tuapeka
and Vincent to the source of the Gimmerburn; thence
towards the North by the Gimmerburn and the Taieri
River to the confluence of the Kyeburn therewith.
NASEBY DISTRICT.
Comprises all that area bounded towards the North and
North-east by the County of Waitaki; towards the South-
east by the County of Waihemo; towards the South by the
Hyde and Hamilton's Registration Districts, hereinbefore
described; and towards the North-west by the County of
Vincent and the Idaburn Riding of the County of Maniototo.
PALMERSTON DISTRICT.
Comprises all that area bounded towards the North-east
by the Otepopo and Hampden Registration Districts;
towards the South-east by the ocean; towards the South-
west by Pleasant River from its outlet to a point due east of
Mount Pleasant; thence towards the South by a straight
line running due west to the north branch of the Waikouaiti
River; and thence towards the West generally by the
Waikouaiti River and the Hyde Registration District, herein-
before described.
WAIKOUAITI DISTRICT.
Comprises all that area bounded towards the North gene-
rally by the Registration Districts of Hyde and Palmerston,
hereinbefore described; towards the East by the ocean to
Brinn's Point; thence towards the South by the Blueskin
Registration District; and towards the South-west by the
Taieri County.
WEST TAIERI DISTRICT.
Comprises all that area bounded towards the North-west
and North-east generally by the Hamilton's, Hyde, and
Waikouaiti Registration Districts, hereinbefore described,
from Lammerlaw to the Silverpeak Hills; thence by the
said hills to a point due east of the source of Allen Creek;
thence towards the South by a line to, and thence by, the
said Allen Creek to the Taieri River; thence towards the
South-east by that river and the south-eastern shore of
Waihola Lake; thence generally towards the North-west by
the western shores of Lakes Waihola and Waipori to the
Waipori River; thence towards the South-west by that river
to the north-western boundary-line of the West Taieri
Hundred; thence again towards the South-east by that
boundary-line to a point south-east (true) of Waitahuna
Hill; thence again towards the South-west by a straight line
to the said hill; thence towards the North-west and South-
west generally by a right line to Trig. G, Block VIII.,
Waipori Survey District; thence by Section No. 5 of the
said block to the Waipori River; thence by that river to the
Verterburn; thence by the Verterburn to Block VI. of
the said survey district; thence by that block and a road
forming the northern boundary of Section No. 4 of the said
Block VI., and forming the northern boundaries of Sections
Nos. 8 and 4, Block V., and forming the north-eastern
boundaries of Sections Nos. 5, 4, and 3, Block II., of the said
survey district, and following up the leading ridge to the
summit of the watershed between the Waipori River and
Lee's Stream; and thence by the summit of the leading
ridge to Lammerlaw.
And I hereby declare that this Proclamation shall come
into operation on the first day of November, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six.
