Arrangements for First Elections, &c., Borough of Hastings.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint
JOHN COLLINGE, Esq.,
to be Town Clerk of the recently-constituted Borough of Hastings, and also Returning Officer to conduct the first elections of Mayor, Councillors, and Auditors of the said borough. Also to appoint Monday, the 11th day of October, 1886, for the election of Mayor; Tuesday, the 12th day of October, 1886, for the election of Councillors; and Wednesday, the 13th day of October, 1886, for the election of Auditors of the borough. And also to appoint Wednesday, the 20th day of October, 1886, at half-past 2 o’clock p.m., to be the time, and the Town Hall at Hastings to be the place, at which the first meeting of the Borough Council of the said borough shall be held.

THE following notice, received from His Worship the Mayor of Lyttelton, is published in accordance with “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876,” and the Acts amending the same.

SIR,—I have the honour to inform you that the Lyttelton Borough Council held a special meeting on the 26th July last, and passed a resolution to authorize the raising of a special loan of £3,000 to build municipal offices and courthouse. Such resolution was confirmed at a subsequent meeting held on the 23rd August, and, in accordance with clause 142 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876,” a poll was taken on the 9th instant, with the following result:—
For the proposal .. .. 442 votes
Against the proposal .. .. 26 „
and, as the number of burgesses on the roll is 496, the resolution was declared to be carried.

PROCLAMATION
By His Excellency Sir Frederick Napier Broome, Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Territory of Western Australia and its Dependencies, &c.
WHEREAS under the provisions of an Act of the Legislative Council, passed in the forty-third year of the reign of Her present Majesty, numbered twenty-three, intituled “An Act for the Prevention of the Importation of Diseased Stock,” the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, is empowered, by Proclamation, to prohibit the introduction into the colony, either by land or sea, of any cattle within the meaning of the said Act and of “The Cattle Diseases Ordinance, 1865,” and “The Imported Stock Act, 1876,” or either of them:
Now, therefore, I, the said Governor, in exercise of such power and of all other powers enabling me in this behalf, do, by this Proclamation, with the advice of the Executive Council, prohibit the importation into and landing in Western Australia, either by land or sea, from Great Britain or Ireland, or from any other place beyond the limits of the Australasian Colonies, of all horned cattle, sheep, and swine.
Given under my hand, and under the Public Seal of the said Colony, this twenty-sixth day of July, 1886.
