A PROCLAMATION.
IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
vested in the Governor by "The Marriage Act, 1880," I,
William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, do hereby abolish the existing
marriage districts known as the Norsewood, Porangahau, and
Danevirk Districts, and do proclaim and declare that the
territory heretofore comprised within the said districts is
hereby divided anew into four marriage districts, the names
and boundaries whereof shall be as follow:β
NORSEWOOD DISTRICT.
All that area in the Provincial District of Hawke's Bay
bounded towards the North by a line due east from the
summit of the Ruahine Range to the source of the Mana-
watu River; thence towards the North-east by that river to
its confluence with the Kahututae-Atua Stream; thence
towards the South-west and towards the South-east generally
by the Ormondville Road District, as described by a special
order in the New Zealand Gazette, No. 128, 7th December,
1883; again towards the South-west by the Danevirk Road
District, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 42,
18th May, 1883; and towards the North-west by the summit
of the Ruahine Range.
ORMONDVILLE DISTRICT.
All that area in the Provincial District of Hawke's Bay
bounded towards the North-east by the Manawatu River
from its confluence with the Kahututae-Atua Stream to a
point due west of the source of the Ngahape Stream; thence
towards the North by a right line to that source; thence
towards the South-east by the County of Patangata;
towards the South and South-west by the Danevirk Road
District, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 42,
18th May, 1883; and towards the North-west by the Norse-
wood District hereinbefore described.
PORANGAHAU DISTRICT.
All that area in the County of Patangata bounded towards
the North-east by the Hapuka line, from the Ngahape
Stream to the sea at Blackhead; thence towards the South-
east by the sea to the northern boundary-line of the Tautane
Block; thence towards the South-west by the said Tautane
Block to its northernmost corner; and thence towards the
North-west and South-west generally by the County of Wai-
pawa.
DANEVIRK DISTRICT.
All that area in the County of Waipawa bounded towards
the North-west by the summit of the Ruahine Range to a
point due west (magnetic) of the intersection of the south-
western boundary-line of Section No. 2, Whakaruatapu,
Norsewood Survey District, with the Whakaruatapu Stream;
thence towards the North-east generally by a right line to
the said intersection; thence by the said Section No. 2 and
Section No. 1 to the south-eastern corner of the latter;
thence by a line due east (magnetic) to the Mangatawainui
River, by that river and the Manawatu River to the Tare-
reangarehu Stream; and thence by that stream and the
Mangapuaka Stream to the Wanga Stream; thence by the
County of Patangata; towards the South-east by the said
County of Patangata to Oporae (Trig. Station No. 51);
thence towards the South-west and West generally by the
south-western and western boundary-lines of the Mangatoro
Block; thence by the southern boundary-line of the Kaitoki
Block to the Otope Stream; thence towards the South
generally by that stream to the south-eastern boundary-line
of the Otawhao Block; thence by that boundary-line to the
Otawhao Stream; thence by that stream to the southern
boundary-line of the Otawhao Block aforesaid; thence by
that boundary-line to the Manawatu River; thence across
and by that river to the southern boundary-line of the Oringi-
Waiaruhu Block; thence again towards the West and South-
west by the southern, western, and south-western boundary-
lines of that block to the south-eastern corner of the Mahara-
hara Block; thence by the south-western boundary-line of
that block to the summit of the Ruahine Range aforesaid.
And I hereby declare that this Proclamation shall come
into operation on the first day of October, in the year of our
Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William
Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General
in Her Majesty's Army, Knight Grand Cross of the
Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable
Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-
Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral
of the same; and issued under the Seal of the
said Colony, at the Government House, at Wel-
ington, this ninth day of September, in the year
of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-six.
