As to Recruiting for the Police and Permanent Forces.

A PROCLAMATION.

UNDER DEFENCE ACT AND POLICE ACT, 1886.

THE Police Force shall be recruited only from men serving in the Permanent Militia, and who have so served at least one year. The Artillery, Engineers, and Torpedo Corps, with the exception of special artificers, engineers, or electricians, shall be selected from the Rifle Branch of the Permanent Militia.

Appointments to the Permanent Militia, Rifle Branch, are to be exclusively given to efficient Volunteers of not less than three years’ efficient service, nor over twenty-five years of age, at the date of their application.

The following regulations are published for the guidance of Volunteers desirous of entering the Rifle Branch of the Permanent Militia.

Applicants for appointments to the Permanent Militia, Rifle Branch, will send in their applications to the Defence Office, with their addresses, ages, medical certificates of fitness, and certificates of character, one of which must be from the Commanding Officer of the corps in which they are serving.

As vacancies arise, appointments will be offered to the seniors on the list of applicants from each part of the colony in turn. On his being informed that he has been so appointed, the candidate will report himself for enrolment at Mount Cook Barracks, Wellington, within one month, otherwise the vacancy will be offered to the next on the list, and he will be held to have forfeited his appointment, unless in case of certified sickness, when he may be replaced at the head of the list within three months, if then fit for service.

The minimum height for the Police is 5ft. 9in.

" " Torpedo is 5ft. 4in.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this second day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six.

Proclaiming the Taking and Laying-off of Roads over Lands in the Auckland Provincial District.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and in exercise of all powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim that the roads described in the Schedule hereto have been duly taken and laid off through the lands specified under warrant of the date given in the said Schedule.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Auckland, containing by admeasurement 9 acres 3 roods, more or less, situate in the Waikohu Survey District, and being a road-line, 100 links wide and upwards, traversing the Okahuatiu No. 1 Block, No. 4400; commencing at a point on the northern boundary of the Okahuatiu No. 2A Block at a distance of 6480 links to the eastward of Trigonometrical Station C, being the middle of the road above referred to; and thence continuing north-easterly generally for a distance of 7800 links or thereabouts to its junction with another road: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is delineated on Plan No. 4100c, deposited in the Survey Office, at Auckland.

Date of Governor’s warrant, 29th August, 1882.

All those parcels of land in the Provincial District of Auckland, containing by admeasurement 42 acres and 21 perches, and 27 acres and 31 perches respectively, more or less, situate in the Waikohu and Patutahi Survey Districts, and being road-lines, each 100 links wide and upwards, traversing the Okahuatiu No. 2A Block, No. 4826A:--

Road containing 42 acres and 21 perches: Commencing at a point on the northern boundary of the Okahuatiu No. 2A Block at a distance of 6480 links or thereabouts to the eastward of Trigonometrical Station C, being the middle of the road above referred to; and thence continuing south-westerly generally for a distance of 40800 links or thereabouts to its junction with another road hereinafter described and at angle-peg No. 15 on the same.

Road containing 27 acres and 31 perches: Commencing at at a point on the eastern boundary of the Okahuatiu No. 2c Block at a distance of 6088 links or thereabouts to the northward of Trigonometrical Station Poha XIII., being the middle of the road above referred to; and thence continuing easterly and south-easterly generally for a distance of 21800 links or thereabouts to the southern boundary of the Okahuatiu No. 2A Block aforesaid.

Be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same are delineated on Plans Nos. 4100A, 4100B, 4100C, and 4100D, deposited in the Survey Office, at Auckland.
