Every candidate will be required to give satisfactory
evidence that he is between the ages of sixteen and twenty-
two years, and either that he is a native of New Zealand, or
that he has resided in New Zealand for the last five years.
Notice of entry, with satisfactory testimonials as to per-
sonal character, and the London matriculation fee of £2,
must be sent to the Secretary for Education, Wellington, so
as to reach his office not later than the 1st January, 1887.

Goldfields Notices.

Agricultural Leases cancelled.

Mines Department,
Wellington, 18th June, 1886.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor
has been pleased to pronounce the under-mentioned
agricultural leases cancelled, and that the ground is now open
for application as if no leases of the said ground had ever
been applied for:—
No. 24. James Fraser; Section 25, Block I., Budle Dis-
trict; 215 acres 1 rood 18 perches, Otago District.
No. 25. William Cameron; Section 24, Block I., Budle
District; 210 acres 3 roods 4 perches, Otago District.

Nelson South-west Goldfields.—Gold-mining Lease refused.

Crown Lands Office,
Nelson, 18th June, 1886.

NOTICE is hereby given that the gold-mining lease
applied for by Thomas J. Jones, for the Red King
Quartz-mining Company, namely, 16½ acres, Marina District,
has been refused, and the ground is now open to persons
holding miners’ rights or business licenses as if a lease of the
ground had not been applied for.

Gold-mining Lease to be granted.

IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of “The
Mines Act, 1877,” and with the regulations made under
that Act for the granting of leases for gold-mining purposes,
it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease of
Crown lands for gold-mining purposes to the applicant
specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid
objections against such lease.
Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the
grounds of objection, must be made in writing, and lodged
with the Warden at Lyell on or before the 26th day of
September, 1886.
Copy of the application made and plan annexed may be
seen at the Warden’s Office at Lyell.


SCHEDULE.

APPLICANT: James Inglis. Style under which it is intended
to conduct the business: Advance Quartz-mining Company.
16 acres 2 roods, at Owen River, in the Nelson South-west
Mining District.

Crown Lands, Provincial District of Canterbury, to be leased
on the Perpetual-leasing System, under Section 161 of
“The Land Act, 1885.”

lands are open for lease for a term of thirty years, with
the right of renewal for a further term of twenty-one years,
and that applications will be received on Wednesday, the

Under section 161 of “The Land Act, 1885,” only one
allotment can be held by any one person. Every application
must be accompanied by a statutory declaration, the amount
of the first six months’ rent, and a fee of £1 10s. Should
there be more than one application on the same day for
the same allotment, the right to occupy shall be determined
by lot.

application, at £4 per acre, on the 25th September, 1886.
Applications to be made at the Land Offices, Christchurch
and Timaru, where plans may be seen.
Should two or more applications be made on the same day,
the land will be put up to public auction, limited to the
applicants.
