Commissioner of the Supreme Court appointed.
NOTICE.—CHARLES WILLIAM LAMBE FORBES, of Aber-
feldy, near Perth, Scotland, a practising Solicitor,
has been appointed, by His Honour Mr. Justice Johnston,
a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in
Scotland, under “The Commissioners of the Supreme Court
Act, 1875,” for the purpose of taking all such oaths, affidavits,
and affirmations as in the said Act are mentioned; and also
for the purpose of taking the acknowledgments of married
women under any Act or law in force in the Colony of New
Zealand requiring such to be taken.

Examination for the Civil Service of India.

Wellington, 23rd December, 1884.
ON the 2nd June, 1885, and following days, an Examina-
tion, open to all qualified persons, will be held in
London. Persons desirous to be admitted as candidates
must apply on forms, which may be obtained from the
Secretary, Civil Service Commission, London, S.W., or from
the undersigned. The forms must be returned so as to be
received at the office of the Civil Service Commissioners, in
London, on or before the 31st March, 1885.

We have, to the best of our belief, ascertained the correct-
ness of the above balance-sheet; we also find that £56 2s. 7d.
was the amount of interest accrued to 31st December, 1884,
but not then payable; and that £39 18s., being arrears of
interest, was unpaid on the same date.

Gold Fields Notices.
Gold-Mining Lease to be granted.
IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of “The
Mines Act, 1877,” and with the regulations made under
that Act for the granting of leases for gold-mining purposes,
it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease of
Crown lands for gold-mining purposes to the applicants
specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid
objections against such lease.
Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the
grounds of objection, must be made in writing, and lodged
with the Warden at Ahaura on or before the 22nd day of
February, 1885.
Copy of the application made and plan annexed may be
seen at the Warden's Office at Ahaura.
SCHEDULE.
APPLICANTS: Robert McCallister and Michael O'Keefe.
Style under which it is intended to conduct the business:
“McCallister and O'Keefe's Lease.” 4 acres, south side of
German Gully No. 1, known as Ward's Gully, Nelson Creek,
Little Grey, in the Nelson South-West Mining District.
Given under my hand, at Nelson, this twenty-sixth
day of January, one thousand eight hundred and
eighty-five.
