Public Notice under “The Property Assessment Act, 1879,” Section 76.

Property-Tax Department,
Wellington, 27th November, 1884.

NOTICE is hereby given that property-tax under “The Property Tax Act, 1884,” for the year commencing on the first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, will be payable as follows:—

(1.) In respect of the duty of three-eighths of a penny, where the amount of such duty shall be under two hundred and fifty pounds, the same shall be paid on the twenty-second day of December, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four:

And where such duty amounts to two hundred and fifty pounds, or exceeds that sum, the same shall be paid in two equal instalments, the first of such instalments being payable on the said twenty-second day of December, and the second of such instalments on the second day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five.

(2.) In respect of the duty on fire, marine, or guarantee policies issued by any insurance company, the same shall be paid on the tenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five.

And notice is hereby further given that the places in each district where the said tax shall be paid shall be any post office within such district which is also a money-order office, except in the district of Wellington, in which district the tax shall be paid at any such post office as aforesaid, and at the office of the Property-Tax Commissioner, at the Government Buildings, Wellington.

Examination for the Civil Service of India.

ON the 2nd June, 1885, and following days, an Examination, open to all qualified persons, will be held in London. Persons desirous to be admitted as candidates must apply on forms, which may be obtained from the Secretary, Civil Service Commission, London, S.W., or from the undersigned. The forms must be returned so as to be received at the office of the Civil Service Commissioners, in London, on or before the 31st March, 1885.

Native Land Court Notice.

Notice under “Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1883.”

I, JOHN EDWIN MACDONALD, Chief Judge of the Native Land Court, do hereby, in compliance with the duty imposed upon me by “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1883,” give notice that on the 13th day of January, 1885, the title to the land mentioned in the Schedule herein became, within the meaning of the said Act, ascertained; and, further, that dealings with the said land will cease to be prohibited by the provisions of the said Act on the 22nd day of February, 1885.

SCHEDULE.

NAME by which land is known: Paratehoata. Native Land Court District wherein situate: Rotorua. Area: 1 acre and 8 perches.

Mineral Lease to be granted.

IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of “The Mines Act, 1877,” and with the regulations made under that Act for the granting of mineral leases, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease of Crown lands for coal-mining purposes to the applicant specified in the annexed Schedule.

Objections to the granting of such lease as applied for, stating the grounds of objection, must be made in writing, and lodged with the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Dunedin, on or before the expiration of thirty days from the publication of this notice.

Copy of the application made and plan annexed may be seen at the Crown Lands Office at Dunedin.

APPLICANT: Richard David Owens. Style under which it is intended to conduct the business: “Llewelyn Coal-Mining Company.” 12 acres, at Section 1, Block IV., Kawarau, in the Wakatipu Mining District.
