The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases.
The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 467 against 583 in October, a decrease of 116. The deaths in
November were 128, a decrease of 55 on the number for October. Of the above deaths, males contributed 74; females,
54. Thirty-nine of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 30·47 per cent. of the whole number; 28 of these
were of children under 1 year of age.

The following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and
upwards, and the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs of Auckland, Wellington,
Christchurch, and Dunedin, that were registered during the Month of November, 1885.

The Old Government Buildings (depicted) were completed in 1876 and initially housed the entire Wellington-based civil service as well as the entire New Zealand Cabinet. The Executive Council met there until 1948.
