Commissioner of the Supreme Court appointed.

NOTICE.—MATTHEW WILKES SIMMONS, of 67, Macquarie Street, Hobart, Tasmania, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of the said colony, has been appointed, this day, by His Honour the Chief Justice, a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in the said colony, under the 4th section of “The Commissioners of the Supreme Court Act, 1875,” for the purpose of taking acknowledgments of married women under any Act or law in force in the Colony of New Zealand requiring such acknowledgements to be made or taken.

By-laws made by Mongonui County Council, re Slaughter-houses, &c.

THE following by-laws, made by the Council of the County of Mongonui, are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882.”

BY-LAWS FOR REGULATING AND MANAGING LICENSED SLAUGHTERHOUSES WITHIN THE MONGONUI COUNTY.

  1. THE license-fee shall be £2 per annum, payable in advance; such license to expire on the 31st day of December in each year.
  2. No slaughterhouse shall be licensed unless situated in such a position where it can be kept clean and free from any offensive smell, and at a reasonable distance from any public thoroughfare or dwellinghouse.
  3. The Council may from time to time appoint one or more Inspectors, whose fees shall be the amount of licenses.
  4. That any person slaughtering any beast within the county shall furnish the Inspector with the brands and description of such cattle so slaughtered within one week of such slaughtering, and the hide, with brand, shall be kept for one week for inspection.
  5. For any breach of these by-laws a fine of not less than £2 nor more than £5 shall be made.
    I certify that the foregoing is a correct copy of By-laws Nos. 1 to 5 of the Mongonui County Council.

BY-LAWS FOR REGULATING AND LICENSING OF PEDLARS AND HAWKERS IN THE MONGONUI COUNTY.

  1. THE annual fee to be paid by all pedlars or hawkers shall be £4 for those travelling on foot, and £6 for those using a horse or cart. The year to terminate on the 31st day of December in each year.
  2. All persons to be deemed pedlars or hawkers who shall travel through the county soliciting orders other than wholesale, in addition to carrying goods about for sale.
  3. All persons using any premises (temporary) for the purpose of disposing of goods under a less tenancy than six months shall be deemed a hawker, and shall pay to the county a license-fee of £10 in addition to the fees mentioned in By-law No. 1.
  4. For any breach of these by-laws a fine of not less than £2 nor more than £5 shall be made.

BY-LAWS FOR REGULATING THE WIDTH OF TIRES ON DRAYS AND WAGONS.

  1. A DRAY with less that 2½in. tire, to be drawn by one horse or two bullocks.
  2. A dray with 2½in. to 3in. tire, to be drawn by two horses or four bullocks.
  3. A dray with 3in. to 4in. tire, to be drawn by three horses or six bullocks.
  4. A dray with 4in. to 6in. tire, to be drawn by four horses or eight bullocks,
  5. The double number of horses or bullocks can be used on four-wheeled wagons with similar tires as those mentioned in Nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 of these by-laws.
  6. These by-laws to take effect from the 1st day of May till the 30th day of September in each year.
  7. For any breach of these by-laws a fine of not less than £1 nor more than £5 shall be made.
  8. These by-laws to have effect throughout the whole county.
  9. That no prosecution under these by-laws shall be undertaken unless by the authority of the Council.

It is hereby notified and proclaimed that the foregoing by-laws, re slaughterhouses, pedlars and hawkers, and regulation of tires, of the Mongonui County Council, have been duly made and confirmed by the said Council, and the common seal of the body corporate has been affixed thereto, and a copy thereof has been sent to the Colonial Secretary; and that the said by-laws will come into force on the date of gazetting.

NOTICE is hereby given that EDWARD WATERS, Patent Agent, of Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, has applied, on behalf of MONTAGUE COHEN, of Number 12, Collins Street West, Melbourne, in the Colony of Victoria, Solicitor, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade mark of which the following is a description, viz. :—

Description of Trade Mark.
A label or ticket having engraved thereon a vignette portrait of the inventor, with the words “Dr. Bell’s” in a scroll over, and the word “Bitters” in a scroll under, the said vignette.

Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.
Chemical substances prepared for use in medicine and pharmacy.
