WHEREAS an Exhibition of the products, manufactures, and arts of our Colonial and Indian dominions is to be held in London in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-six: And whereas it has been represented to Us that it is desirable that Commissioners should be appointed to devise and carry out the details necessary for the transmission to London of any articles the produce or manufacture of our Colony of New Zealand, intended for exposition at the said Exhibition, for their due display thereat, and for their subsequent sale or careful return to their owners: Now know ye that We, reposing especial trust and confidence in your knowledge, integrity, and ability, do by these presents authorize and appoint you to be such Commissioners accordingly, of whom any three shall form a quorum, with full power to act in these premises; and do appoint the before-named Francis Dillon Bell to be President of you the said Commissioners, and Executive Commissioner, and the aforesaid John Francis Julius von Haast to be the Commissioner in charge of the exhibits at the said Exhibition.
In testimony whereof We have caused these our letters to be made patent, and the Seal of our said Colony of New Zealand to be hereunto affixed.
Witness Our Trusty and Well-beloved Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Our Army, Knight Grand Cross of Our Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of Our Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Our Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at Wellington, this thirteenth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five, and in the forty-ninth year of our reign.
