ALL that piece of land situated in the Survey District of Te Aroha, containing 2 acres 1 rood 18 perches, be the same a little more or less, being part of Section 17 of Block IX. on the map of the Te Aroha Survey District. Bounded towards the North-east by other part of said Section 17, 766·4 links; towards the South-east by Emma Street, 488·9 links; towards the South by a road laid out on the bank of the Waihou River; and towards the North-west by other part of said Section 17, 41 and 332·2 links: be the said admeasurements a little more or less. And also all that strip of land situate in the said Te Aroha Survey District, containing 30·8 perches, be the same more or less, and being part of said Section 17 of Block IX., and being of the width of 15 links. Bounded towards the East by other part of said Section 17, Block IX. aforesaid, 40·7, 476·1, 211·3, and 560·7 links; and towards the West by other part of said Section 17, Block IX., aforesaid, 560, 209, 478, and 36 links: be the said admeasurements a little more or less; the said two pieces of land being part of the land comprised and described in Vol. xxiv, folio 166, of the Register-book of the District of Auckland.
Notice under “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1883.”
WHEREAS the estate and interest of Tiaki Paora, Te Maenga Paora, and Rihi Paora, aboriginal natives of New Zealand, in the land described in the Schedule hereto, is vested in Whakatere te Kaeoa and Wiremu Tamahana, as trustees under the provisions of “The Maori Real Estate Management Act, 1867,” and the several amendments thereof, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application has been made for the removal of such restrictions:
It is hereby notified that it is intended, immediately after the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the alienation of the said land in respect of the interests aforesaid, in order that the said lands may be leased by the said trustees for twenty-one years from the 25th May, 1885.

WHEREAS the estate and interest of Te Mananui Mahuri, aboriginal native of New Zealand, in the land described in the Schedule hereto, is vested in Hoani Meihana te Rangiotu and Irihapeti Mahuri, as trustees under the provisions of “The Maori Real Estate Management Act, 1867,” and the several amendments thereof, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application has been made for the removal of such restrictions:

TORRES STRAIT—GREAT NORTH-EAST CHANNEL.—SHOAL SOUTH-WEST OF NINEPIN ROCK.
THE French Government has given notice, on the authority of the commander of the French vessel “Vétéran,” of the existence of a shoal lying about three miles south-westward of Ninepin Rock, in the course recommended through the Great North-east Channel to Torres Strait.
This shoal (Veteran Shoal) is stated to extend in the shape of a crescent (concave side to the north-west) for a distance of about one cable in a north-east and south-west direction, with a breadth of about a quarter of a cable, and, judging from the colour of the water, the depth was estimated to be about 2½ fathoms. It lies with the following approximate bearings: Ninepin Rock, N.E.; Burke Island Summit, N.W. ⅔ W.
Approximate position: Lat. 10° 16′ S., long. 142° 38⅔′ E.
The bearings are magnetic. Variation: 4⅔° easterly in 1885.

ENGLISH CHANNEL, PART II., 1877.—NOTICE NO. 23.
FRANCE.—CAPE GRISNEZ.—ALTERATION IN CHARACTER OF LIGHT.—About the 15th September, 1885, the character of the electric light at Cape Grisnez will be changed to a flashing light, showing three white flashes and one red flash. The three white flashes will form a group, with intervals between flashes of three seconds and intervals between groups of twelve seconds. In the middle of the interval between groups the red flash will show. The limit of visibility of this light will be about forty miles in clear weather, and will reach or exceed nineteen miles during ten months of the year.

ADDITIONAL LEADING LIGHTS, CLEVELAND BAY.
NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after this date, two additional leading lights will be placed, 644 yards apart, near the mouth of Ross Creek, which, when in line, will lead between Virago Reef and the detached reef off Magnetic Island.
The front light, which is red, stands near the outer end of the western breakwater, and is about 12 feet above high-water springs. The back light, which is white, stands near the eastern end of the high land at the Pilot Station, and is about 50 feet above high-water springs.
The line of lights leads 300 feet to the westward of the Flag Buoy, which marks the western end of the detached reef.

ANSER ISLANDS, BASS STRAIT.—SUNKEN ROCK.
ADVERTING to the notice dated 23rd September, it is now notified that the rock upon which the “Gulf of Carpentaria” struck is situated due north from Clef Island, and distant therefrom six and a half cables; the north end of South Anser Island bears E. by S. ½ S., and the south end bears S.E. ½ E. (magnetic) from the rock.
This rock, which is not shown on the latest Admiralty charts, is a circular patch about 100 feet in extent, with about 10 feet of water on the shallowest part.
Mariners are hereby cautioned against navigating the passages between either the North and South Anser Islands, or between Clef Island and Citadel Island.
