NOTES FOR APRIL.

Auckland.—A fine month, with small total rainfall, although light showers at times; maximum rainfall on 29th, ·19in.; prevailing S. wind and moderate, except strong from N.E on 29th.

Wellington.—From 1st up to 17th very fine, bright, pleasant weather, with moderate winds, chiefly from N.E. and S.E.; night of 17th changed from N.W. to S.E., and heavy rain; strong S.E. wind on 18th and 19th, with rain, heavy gusts at times; from 20th to 28th generally fine, bright, cold weather, with occasional light showers, wind S.; last two days wet and unpleasant. Maximum rain on 19th, ·67in.; prevailing N.W. and S.E. winds, and moderate; foggy on 23rd.

Lincoln.—Fine weather, with slight rainfall, the maximum recorded on 30th, ·262in.; moderate wind.

Dunedin.—Rather a showery month, although some fine days at intervals; maximum rainfall recorded on 29th, 1·08in.; prevailing S.W. wind, and light; fog on 18th, 29th, and 30th.

GENERAL REMARKS.—Fine weather, with generally light wind and small rainfall

NOTES FOR MAY.

Auckland.—Early part tolerably fine, though showery; latter, wet, unpleasant weather; maximum rain recorded on 22nd, 1·53in.; prevailing wind, S.W., and often strong; fog on 18th.

Wellington.—A very wet month almost throughout, at times bright during day, but wet nights; prevailing N.W. and S.E. winds, and frequently stormy and cold; hail on 14th and 15th; cold in early part of month, but on the whole temperature above the average. Maximum rainfall on 26th, ·800in.; average dewpoint, 48·1; average humidity, 80.

Lincoln.—On the whole a showery month; the maximum rainfall recorded on 10th, ·286in.; wind generally moderate, but strong on 9th and 10th.

Dunedin.—Very changeable weather, with light wind, chiefly from S.W., and showery; maximum rain recorded on 26th, ·516in.; strong wind on 4th from S.W.; fog on 22nd.

GENERAL REMARKS.—Showery weather during this month, but no very heavy falls of rain. Wind, on the whole, moderate; temperature below average.

NOTES FOR JUNE.

Auckland.—A fine month; maximum rain recorded on 9th, ·75in.; prevailing N. and N.E. winds, and strong towards latter part, especially on 19th and 26th; fog on 15th and 16th.

Wellington.—From 1st to 6th fine, with N.W. wind and fresh, strong on 6th; 7th to 10th showery, strong N.W. wind on 7th; from 11th to 17th very fine pleasant weather, some frosty nights, strong N.W. wind on 16th and 17th; showery on 18th, and 1·45in. rain recorded on 19th, the maximum for month; 20th to 27th fine, and light easterly winds and frosty nights, last three days of month showery; thunder on 8th; fog on 25th, 26th, and 27th. Average dewpoint, 44·7; average humidity, 83.

Lincoln.—Generally fine, with small rainfall and moderate wind; maximum rainfall recorded on 9th, ·57in.

Dunedin.—Remarkably fine; small rainfall, in light showers, and maximum recorded on 22nd, ·14in. Variable wind and light; fog on 17th and 29th.

GENERAL REMARKS.—Fine weather during this period for time of year; little rain and moderate or light wind; temperature rather above the average.
